Oxygen Sensors
 

Hey guys got a question. DO any of you know if the OXygen sensor in the 626 is a 4 wires sensor liek the Protege? Reason I ask is that the dealer wants 340 bucks each for the O2's in my 2000 Protege but only 30 each for the 2000 626 both use the F series engines and if I can save 600 bucks you bet I am. If any of you know let m eknow.-

For an O2 sensor? man that's a rip off. There's nothing special about the Protege's sensors, unless the threads are something strange. Pull one and take it to a local parts house just to be sure the threads match and get the Bosch. Due to the long connector leads on the stock units, you will have to splice wires, but that's no big deal. There are much cheaper O2s than Bosch too, so if long sensor life isn't importent get the $35 POS, especially for the OBDII sensor.

You may want to try cozying up to the parts guy at the dealer too. Then tell them you're a jobber, and would like the discount rate. Should save you 20 to 35% on parts. I got my guys wired, 25% over cost for Mazda parts and 15% over on GMC.

OK guys the 626 uses a 4 wire sensor like the protege and it sends the same signal just different wire position which is easily remidied. The 626 sensors are 30 bucks each. Difference is the 626 sensors are made in the US like the car whereas the Protege uses a Japanese made sensor that is just more expensive but the 626 does the same thing. Just to let you all know.

But 626 is made in teh US and Protege in Japan they use different suppliers but they are both 4 wire sensors and the 626 were actually 55 each not 30 they gave me the wrong price but thats still a far cry from 340 bucks. I asked the tech and they send the same signal just have to make sure the pinouts are the same or change them around. Any of you have the pinouts for the Protege O2 sensors.

Ahh yes but there in lies the problem. I know mine are burnt up. CEL lights adn then the fact i ran super rich with my turbo enough to break apart the cat structure is enough to burn them up and on top of that i sprayed the piss out of my car for a while. SO yes they are burnt up. But just in case any of you need new O2's buy them for the 626 not the protege Mazda is ripping you off. I believe after some research that they are bolt ons as well.
