OBDII scanning software (3rd Gen)
 

Has anyone used the OBDII scanning software yet? I ordered this a while ago, but haven't loaded it on my laptop yet. I'm upgrading the laptop now, so I'll load the software tonight and start using this soon. Just wondered if anyone has any expertise with this software yet.

Yes, I got it from http://www.obd-2.com/. It's $122 for a single type, and $182 for all vehicles.

I assume you mean programming capabilities. The information you can get from this software can still be very useful for tuning purposes.

I use an AutoTap as an OBDII scanner on my GM vehicle. B&B Electronics also makes one that works on both Fords and GM. Do our Mazda's have the same interface as Fords?

Nope. Here is the info the OBDII site gives:

Your choice of one of three possible OBDII gateway router interfaces:
ISO - for European, Asian, Chrysler
VPW - for General Motors
PWM - for Ford

There is a kit for $182 that will connect to all of them though.

You know if your a student you get a 25% discount. I ordered mine and its on the way. You can download the software for free and check it out. Very, very robust application. I can not wait to get it and quit paying $70 to get DTS codes from the local garage's scan tool. At the site they have a link where you can see a demo of some guy who ran it on his Porsche.

True, I'll still haven't mastered getting all the info possible out of the software. :)

I took another look at AutoTap's site. They've had a scanner that does all three for over a year now. Where've I been? It cost a lot more than the one from obd-2 though, $489.

Although I haven't tried the one from obd-2. I do know people that had tried both and they were far more impressed with the AutoTap. So for those that have the $ to spare, give www.autotap.com a look.

[edit] Errr, just took a look at obd-2. . . looks like some improvements were made. I think I might be picking one up as well.

I have never heard of this tool, and don't know anything about it. My only question is that all you guys keep talking about OBDII this and OBDII that. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I understand, that my MP3 and so, more than likely, your Pro5's run on OBDIII. :laugh: I HATE CALIFORNIA!!!!IT"S ALL THERE FAULT!!!!!They should sell East Coast editions for the rest of us. I bet that without all the emissions crap an MP3 is probably like 2000hp!! : ) Give or take 1800 or so. Anyway, sorry for bitchin...it just pisses me off. Before the Injen cold air came out, I bought a cool Matrix cone filter. My friends and I installed it and of course some sensor wasn't happy and set the check engine light off. I know it was probably that air temperature sensor, but I just want to know why the hell there is an air temperature sensor, and if the computer doesn't like the temperature of the air....What the hell is it gonna do about it!!?? Luckily it finally turned off about 4 hours later after I ran the car up to redline. I guess it just needed to re-calibrate. Oh well....thanks for listening and any advice on the exhaust would be appreciated.

OBDIII? That's news to me. Our cars still use OBDII. I haven't heard of OBDIII being used yet. What do you want to know about the exhaust. There are several threads in this section about exhaust with good information. Have you searched yet?

Eric F or anyone else using this - can I get an update on what you think of this product? I might be picking one up soon and just wanted to see what you've though of the product after using it for 5 more months.

Probably the best diagnostic tool I have for tuning the car. I have the connector that does all version of OBDII and I've already made enough money to pay for it by renting it out to all friends. Seems like my check engine lights is on all the time because I'm constantly changing a tweaking things so its nice to se what codes are causing it and if the changes make a difference or not.

The connector in my car a 99 Protégé is located right next to the hood release which is on the bottom of the panel under the steering wheel to the left. It looks like an extra large DB connector.
