no one knows?

i dont think the mounts are at the same points

anything will fit with enough time and effort. Are you looking for a direct bolt-in swap? If so then I don't think it'll work. Maybe a 2nd Gen guru will come in and point out the differences.

p.s. I'm assuming you have access to a 1.8L and you want the performance upgrade. If you were to get the engine, transmission, exhaust, ecu, harness and all 4 mounts then YES it would be a drop in swap.

i think its the mounts that are different

but same as what rod said

if you can get it all, then it will be a drop in swap

I see, well I guess maybe then I should stick with the 1.6L, because my 1.6L engine I have now has a bad rod. I just figured maybe I could upgrade in the process of replacing the engine. :\

well at that rate, why don't u try for the forged engine from wagner (short block i think)

try to find a tranny from a wrecked protege (G15M-R (from a 2.0L pro)) and fromt he wrecked car maybe try to pull the ecu, blah, blah blha, most of the wiring and etc etc
(or maybe even get a standalone ecu)

well it all depends on how much your willing to pay and how far ure willing to go

maybe just get another 1.6L (if u can go forged internals, the better) and then turbo the sucka (obviously you would make more power from turbo-ing a 2.0L or 1.8L.... but u need to get those engines first

well, I see I found something kinda interesting really.... http://www.cardomain.com/id/vagabond_x . This guy has a Mazda Protege LX with a 1.8L engine already in it stock, so therefor my chances of it being a straight drop in would be good no? Someone stop me if I'm wrong, or maybe this guy doesn't know his car? By the way, kinda funny that his name is Vagabond_x : ).

A quick little edit, your car is a touring edition? Maybe that is why. :O
