Newbie question: Engine swap
Hi all,
I just purchased a 2001 Protege LX automatic. It's free and clear, and no warranty, so I'm tempted to start tinkering around with it. So can I swap in the 2.0L engine from an ES of the same or other year without touching the tranny or ECU, etc.? What other Mazda/Ford engines can I swap in cleanly (no tranny/mount mods)? Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Weez |
First, welcome.
Second, search, there are many threads which will explain why this is a bad idea. Third, if you've got the 1.6L and really want to tinker, boost it and swap the tranny for a manual. |
no doubt. the 1.6L is a great engine....throw some boost at it and see what happens.
Maybe contact Lentech or Level10 about a performance automatic for your car.... |
holy christ !!!

in my case it wasn't a bad idea to swap...
it was for my car to run on asphalt and concrete again instead of sitting on a drivway for 5-8 months or a junk yard if your engine is still good, DONT SWAP!. just look for modifications you can do to your engine |
