New Filter!!!
 

I put a new cone filter in my MP3 today to hold me off until I can get 10 people to go in with me on the MHP CAI!! ($275.00) Its just like a shorty now. I put in an areospeed cone filter with yellow accents. It sucks air pretty good! Makes a hissing sound at idle and you can really hear it when I shift from first to second. :D I can hardly wait to get a CAI, because I know it will be soooo much better!!!:bt: I will have pics up tommorow most likely :blue:

what kind of response did you get by installing the AEM intake? it looks nice.

I have not installed an AEM intake yet. All I have is a cone filter(you can see pics of it in the above thread). The AEM intake that I have posted is not mine, I got it off of the internet. :bt:

That picture is of a 2.0L AEM intake right? The one for the 1.8L is a short ram that ends near the radiator overflow right?.

i just installed the 1.8L AEM a few days ago ...

the filter itself sits *almost* behind the radiator - not sure what the radiator overflow is/looks like. right after i installed it, i took it out for a spin - probably 2 kilometres at most and the shortram tube was already warm!!!

oh well, i love the sound and acceleration is A LOT smoother.

the AEM 1.8L looks nothing like what MP3-owner has in his photo album! it's more like one bent piece, rubber hose, MAF, one straight piece, rubber hose, and then the filter!!! and the filter doesn't point downwards in the engine bay.

been playing with the idea of getting some tubing and putting it near the front and putting the other end right next to the filter ... would that do anything other than feed it some colder air?

i've also been to home depot but the only tubing they have is almost 2 inches wide. is there a specific type of tubing i should use if i want to do this?

I got the picture of that AEM intake off of the internet but from what I can tell it is the short ram intake for the 2.0L engines. I know that car is a P5. They must make them different for the 1.8L engines.

whats the word on the aem intakes?
would it be better to spend the extra few bills on the injen?
I'm not massivly interested in bif performance gains just wanted a bit better sound, etc looks..

The 1.8L & the 2.0L AEM's are completely different. The 1.8L is a true short ram while the 2.0L goes about as close to the hole in the wheel well as it can before it goes into that hole & becomes a CAI. Theres a bit more to the 2.0L. Now, all of this is based on pictures I've seen of the 2.0L I havent gotten a shipment in yet but I should have some to check out soon. Now as to which is better for looks, that is mainly going to depend on what colors you are going for. If you are going with a Red engine accents, go with the Injen because it only comes polished with red hoses & lettering. The AEM comes Red, blue or clear (which I guess is just a plain brushed metal). I do think the Injen looks better if you are wanting the Red stuff on it. But if you are going with a blue accent engine, then the Injen would sorta kill it (I've got a couple of customers going with the AEM mainly because of the fact its offered in blue while the Injen is only in Red). Just my 2 cents. I think performance wise, they are both going to be rather close.

When you installed the cone filter, where did you connect the air temp sensor? I see how you connected the MAF, just wondering 'cause I can't afford a CAI right now, and looking for a cheap way to get more power. Already have a K&N drop-in filter, it's good, but looking for more.
I saw how the MHP looks like, but I think the Injen looks better, that's what I'm actually saving up for, or whenever AEM makes a CAI.:cool:

If you really want to maximize your performance dollar, stick with the K&N drop in filter. You aren't going to get noticably more power by installing any of the other intakes available by themselves. There probably aren't enough mods available for the FP & FS engines right now to cause the intake to be a power restriction. I have an intake mostly to clean up the engine compartment by removing some of the stock plastic under the hood.

That is very true...If your looking for more HP, you won't find it by installing just a cone filter. You will have to install either the short ram(AEM) or a true CAI like MHP or Injen. Your K&N drop in should add as much HP as my cone did. Which is not much but it sounds a little better. As for the Air Temp, I just zip tied it to the MAF. I don't think it hurts to leave it out does it? *bites finger nails*

Thanks for the info, I'm still saving up for the CAI(Injen or AEM). I probably won't get it till March or April, but I can't wait.:cool:

any chance any of these ford focus intake will fit on the P5?
I've seen them on ebay for as low as 49 US..looks like it would.....

I don't think the AEM, Injen, or MHP intakes will add noticably more power than a K&N drop in either. You can bet the ECU uses the air temp sensor to fine tune the air/fuel mixture, so I would find a way to put it back in the intake air stream.
