My third gear is having problems?

When accel very slowly and shifting at low RPM's, when i shift into third, it pops out and i have to stick it back in. It happens in about 1 out of 10 times i do it. I know sometimes i just don't stick in all the way, but has anyone has this problem before.??

it certainly sounds like your syncros are going......

You may also want to bleed your clutch line. I had a similar problem in my Civic, it turned out to be some air trapped in the hydraulic line.

I don't have to slam it in at all, it feels like its brand new, it just comes out of gear some times in third gear at low rpm. once it comes out I just pushin the clutch and stick it back in and it works...i has never popped out twice in a row. trany feels smooth

I had the a similar problem in a Probe GT, only in 5th gear. It turned out to be expensive....

I waited untill it happened almost every time (The damn thing was really old, and I was basically just going to run it till it died). It would happen across the rev band, but only when I let off the gas. I was told by a local shop that it was caused at first by a ruined engine mount. The mount was destroyed and allowed a good bit of engine/transaxle movement when accelerating and shifting. Every time the acclerator was released, the engine would rock hard, and pop out of 5th. If I would have had it looked at sooner it could have ended with that, but the length I drove with the mount gone, nearly ruined the box. The "shift collar" as I was told was heavily worn, as well as a good bit of the gears teeth length. The fork had been bent, due to shifting with the gearbox slamming around in there.

I don't know a whole lot about these box's and I don't recall everything I was told that was wrong. I just know I should had it looked at sooner. 5th gear needed replaced, 1 mount, shift fork, bearings, and a collar or something. after labor it was about $890 in a car that was worth about $1200 (R title)

Take it to a decent shop and have it looked at. The mechanic said that this could be caused by more things than just a bad mount, and I don't think this problem will just cure itself

Hope that helps man

Hey, I have this problem too but I just thought that I didn't push it in all the way. It's exactly how you described it, I'll shift into third and then accelerate, the the stick will just pop out and I'll have to put it in again. I guess I'll take it to the dealer and have them take a look. But my car isn't even a year old yet, I hope nothing is worn out yet.

I flushed my entire brake/clutch system today and put valvalene synthedic fluid in it and the clutch feels so much smoother along with the shifts, the brakes are much better too. I haven't had the problemhappen again since i did it. I'll keep you updated. From what i've read, mazda puts crappy brake fluid in to begin with, part of the money saving ideas

well my tranny died. I was coming home from work and it decided to break. I can't change gears. the clutch still works but the shifterdoesn't. I can move the stick through the gears with no resistance and i have no clue what gear its stuck in. It happened about 4:30. mazda didn't get me a tow truck until 7:00 so i didn't get a rental until tommorrow so i was just stuck. I'm not to happy with my baby right now. advice??? The car is still under warranty so its not going to cost me anything but time and aggravation
