Muffler

Hello everyone,
I'm thinking about buying a muffler.
Can anybody give me any idea of a good muffler?
I don't wanna buy any junk! Something affordable and also with a good performance!
I like the deep sound!

Please give me advices, pics and web sites where I could find them!
Thank you everyone!!

Well, a muffler's not really going to add performance. You'll be lucky to get 1 hp.

You might as well drop the cash and get a Racing Beat cat-back system which, according to their website, gives you 5hp and 5ft/lbs of torque. Mazdaspeed also makes a cat-back system. I'm sure others do too.

Just buy more than a muffler if you're interested in any performance gains.

personally ther will be no more than 1hp difference b/w a cat back and muffler... muffle ris where most of the pressure is... pipe wont do anything unles syou are removing either cats, or both.... but if you are going to do catback, then might as well do headers too... i went with a vibrant exhasut... awsome rumble. www.vibrantperformance.com... you can get it for about 4bilss canadian.... axleback bolt on... dont have any pics... (had on the other protege board... dont know if they are still there)

The Bosal Cat-back is a nice choice as well....it looks good, sounds good.....and is decently priced..

....Muffler

I'm gonna check those mufflers....
I don't really want to spend tooo much on the muffler. I still have to buy new wheels.
Will a muffler from a car-shop....or e-bay be ok?
I checked on e-bay..... and are those any good?
Or is worth to spend $300 for 5-7HP?
People, let me know...
Thank you,

Personally if you dont want to spend $350+ on a cat-back, get you a nice sounding, affordable muffler like Ractive:D for $100 or $130. And you can go with Apexi, and HKS but you'll be spending $200+ on the muffler. Then go to your local muffler shop and have them make you a 2.25" catback for lets say $100. You can have a custom HKS/Apexi/Greddy full cat-back for like $300 instead of like $600! And you can have your 5hp, even though its not mandrel bent.

wassup squirrel?? i went with just a magnaflow muffler installed at my local muffler shop. I paid $140 installed, and the shop had to run a new exhaust near the back of the car due to the reduced space I had. It is a good looking muffler, with a low deep rumble, not loud at all. Hope this helps. Later:)

i paid 50 bucks for my exhaust off of ebay. its loud and big. i love it!!!!!!!!http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/b683b...f63_9Af4wni.Wj

akaveli November-17th-2002 08:16 PM

which exhaust was that u got for 50 bucks?

DarK_anGel1412 November-17th-2002 08:35 PM

look at the rivets in it, its a so called "style" muffler, its not the real thing, its an imitation thats built like shit, spend the extra 100 or so bucks and get yourself a nice apexi n1 muffler u wont regret it

AFireInside November-17th-2002 09:15 PM

What to do...

Go ahead and buy one of those ebay mufflers, just make sure its a fully welded design. Big names like "apexi" and "hks" ect.. are pretty much the same muffler minus the name. Cost on the Apex N1 for example is $75.00. I am currently running an Apexi N1 muffler with 2.25 mandrel bent piping with the factory exhaust resonator removed and replaced it with a straight pipe. The result was practically no restriction after the cat, also resulting a louder exhaust note. The factory resonator is pretty much just a "pre" muffler which has no effect on emissions. This whole exhaust setup only cost me $135.00 total, and I promise you that it produces MORE hp than that crappy racing beat setup. BEWARE... do not buy too cheap of a muffler for you get what you pay for. Cheap, cheap mufflers are packed with cheesy fiber stuffing and when hot, start to smoke/ stink. Then it burns out and now you basically have no muffler (muffling)at all.

Good luck.

AFireInside November-17th-2002 09:33 PM

about rivits

He was referring to the 5 Zigen - Fireball style muffler design, riveted instead of welded
