MSP Power Loss @3500-4000rpm
 

Hi everyone

I've got 3000 miles on my Black MSP Protege, and have begun to notice a power loss, it seems, right before the turbo fully spools up.
Has anyone else had this problem on their MSP? Also any suggestions on remeding the problem.

Take it to the dealer and let them figure it out.

too much fuel, we all have the same problem... there is a fuel pressure reduction kit on the market that seems to work well for alot of people.

Too much fuel?! Why would you want to reduce the fuel...when you could turn up the boost? Seriously, if it is running rich enough to cause a loss in power, its running pretty rich and could probably use a little more air, which would obviously result in more HP.

-I have seen this fuel reduction kit. Has any of you installed it?

Simply turning up the boost might work, but I'm not sure how the ECU will respond. Anyone more familiar with the workings of the ECU?

tito1, this power loss that you are talking about is the hesitation promblem that all MSP have. It has to due with the fuel mapping that mazda installed in the ecu. To help with this promblem you can purchase the fpr from Joe P., he is the person who developed this product. I have read many good reviews about this product on the other mazda forum msprotege.com. The dealer can't do anything about it, since it is a fuel map issue. I have heard that mazda is working on a new fuel map that would require the ecu to be reflashed. How will the Fuel Reduction kit affect my warranty?

The only way the fuel reduction kit will void your warranty is if the dealership can prove that the fuel reduction kit was what caused the problem. Go to www.joepmbc.com, he some pictures of the fuel reduction kit in place. This kit looks like it came from the factory, unless the mechanics from the dealership know what they are looking for they probally won't even notice the fuel reduction kit.
