MS/JDM cams and CEL

I helped a friend install these cams in his P5. The install went fine, but the next day the CEL came on. Is this normal?

Hey MazdaProud and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

NORMAL? sometimes when your ECU sees a big change in its system it will cause the CEL to come on....What I would suggest is to reset the ECU and then restart the car and allow it to idle, allowing the ECU to RELEARN what is now NORMAL for the car......then go on driving it again and see if it returns....if it does return....I would suspect that there is another issue. It may be related to the cams...but there have been many members that has installed the cams and not experienced CEL's.

I searched and found a lot of useful info on the cams. I also learned about the timing sensor on the cam gears and how the ECU does not like any cam advance/retard. My friend is using stock cam gears and everything was set to TDC. We just reseted is ECU and the CEL went away so will see what happens.
