mazdaspeed header

Anyone have any info on the corksport mazdaspeed header?

Looking for ease of installation, removal of primary cat???, HP increase??

for one, it isn't street legal, if you're state checks for emmissions and it's expensive as hell.

MY province has no emmision testing. Expensive is a problem, but it depends on the return. What is the performance increase??

Anyone tried it?

I'm not aware of anyone that has installed this header yet. It will eliminate the primary cat right below the stock exhaust manifold. I've read that the FP & FS engine respond well to headers, so I would expect to see around 7-9 wheel HP from the header. I don't think this header has provisions for the EGR tube or an O2 sensor, so you'd have to work that out yourself.

Damm, I was hopinh that it was a straight bolt-on piece (both o2 sensors and the egr tube) so that there would be no problems with the ECU. I sure dont like the idea of paying so much for that header, then having to cut it up to put the sensors in.

is it this one?

Yes, came from a Japan website mentioned on another thread.

Since one O2 sensor is placed before the cat, and one after, you would only need to worry about adding one bung to the header for the first O2 sensor. I haven't seen a dual cat Protege exhaust yet, but you might be able to put an O2 sensor right in front of the cat, and right after, with out having to add one to the header. You would still need to hook up the EGR tube though.

If it's a standard ODBII system, the 1st o2 sensor is doing all the work, and the 2nd is just there to prove the 1st one is working. If it's like most that I have seen, you can get rid of the 2nd one by putting the appropriate voltage to the proper lead.
Overall, the header is a disappointment. If someone comes up with a proper aftermarket header (oh yah, """racing header"""), the will have to take into consideration our o2 sensors and egr tube. I dont think people want to spend 800US for the mazdaspeed header and then have to cut it up. If someone wanted to sell even the mazdaspeed header, they should do the mods to it first.
