Mazda Protege - ECU help

I have a 2000 mazda protege DX with the 1.6l, MT, low emissions model. I need to replace the ECU and was wondering if anybody knows if I could run a ZM01 in a ZM37 car. Does a standard emissions ecu work in a low emissions vehicle? also what does the letters at the end of the ECU model number describe ex. (is a ZM37-18881-D the same ECU as a ZM37-18881-A model).
