Mazda Oil

Ijust had my first oil change and it just happened to be free from Mazda. I was talkiing to the service guy and was asking him what oil they used he said "Mazda oil". I asked him who makes it and he said Mazda does. Is this true or is it made for them from some other oil company.
Just wondering.

heh, yea, Mazda built their own refinery just so they can sell their own brand of oil to their dealerships.

It's made by someone else, no idea who though.

Bomber Oct 1, 2002 05:01 PM

Ya, thats my problem. I know that it isn't their 'oil company' thats making this.
They couldn't tell me at the dealership who makes this other than 'Mazda'. I'm just hope it isn't Pensoil.

I say Castrol

since that's what my dealership used to put in my car when I took it for oil change (I put in Mobil 1 myself now)

My dealer say Petro Canada.

Chevron

I say Quaker State...

When I bought my P5 in march, they offered me a special warranty through Quaker state...said they'd warrant my entire drive train for 10 years or 100, 000 miles if I ALWAYS had my oil done by a QuakerState quickie lube place...if I missed an oil change, had someone else do it, or did it myself, I'd void QuakerState's warranty (not mazda warranty, though). I figured I'd sign, and make up my mind later.

I signed, then started doing it myself anyway.

Mazda Canada's oil is provided by Petro Canada as far as I have heard. Not sure what goes on down there in the USA...

dewey Oct 8, 2002 07:25 AM

My guess is even less specific: I'll bet they have some kind of special formula, and every year they ask every oil company under the sun to bid on a contract to make that recipe for the year.

Whoever's cheapest gets to make the whole batch, and then they just pour it into bottles that say "Mazda".

Your oil is probably from a different company every time it gets changed!

I bet dewey is right. Petro Canada won the canadian contract, Quaker state american. Could even be east coast-west coast specific, for all we know...

Chevron out west? I guess there's quaker state lube joints out there, too, though...
