Making a new CAI
 

Well I still have tons of ideas about these CAI I see on the net.

I am now copying the Dragon style heat sheild!

I have made the entire piping from the throttle body, I have incorporated the Air Meter and I still have to work out the vaccum & the air temp sensor( BTW: Does the air temp HAVE TO BE before the air meter?)

Anyway, I have a cone filter, which I have made a sealed shield around it, using rolled aluminum, then I placed a inlet for connection to the twin scoop I have currently installed.

Doing all of this has not damaged any of my factory parts and its takes maybe 10 minutes to put it back to factory.

Once I get some input about the sensors, and I finish the vaccum issue, I will post pictures again! Hope fully more Drag times also

PS: The $20 twin scoop intake got me 1 tenth faster in the 1/8 mile.

How hard would it be to mimic the AEM Short ram intake?

It looks like it would be really easy to do with pvc plumbing pipe. Anybody ever done this? Is there anything I should know before attempting this?

That would very easy to duplicate that intake. If I was you, I would just make the short ram, because you are still sucking in hot under hood air. Take some more time to seal the filter and create a ram air scoop for it! You will see more power and better acceleration from it.

Yeah, I'm totally into making one. I talked to a friend on the net who made a CAI using exhaust piping. Looks good too!

The only thing I'm trying to figure out is how to connect to the throttle body?

From what I can figure, it's just a 3" rubber connector to the pipe to another rubber connector to the MAF to a rubber connector to the pipe to the filter.

But what about the vacuum tube? And what about the sensor that sits inside the air box? I don't even know what that one is? Is that the temperature sensor?

So many variables. I'm good with tools, but have never worked on a car before, so this is totally intimidating. :eek:

That sensor inside the stock air box is a temperature sensor. You need to integrate that into the intake before the the MAF sensor. Injen installed my CAI. Here's a pic:

Follow the intake from the right where it comes out of the fender. See that small black plug before the MAF sensor? That is the temperature sensor integrated into the piping. Then the MAF sensor, then the red vacuum tube, and a rubber 90 degree connector to the throttle body. Hope this helps!
