Limited slip differentials...

Can you guys tell me the differences between these two LSDs and why one costs more than the other plz? Thanks.

The quaife can handle MUCH more power, and IIRC it isn't 'torsen-style' like the Mazda one.

thanks for the reply. So is a torsen type not a very good type of lsd then? What type is the quaife?

Honestly they're both the same type. They are torque-bias gear-driven LSDs, so they have the downside of functioning as an open diff as soon as one wheel is on a slippery surface (ice) or is off the ground.

correct...they are both worm gear driven...torque sensing based on load applied...

the quaife is a LOT stronger(thus the higher price), bottom line is their design has more surface area where the gears intermesh.

Anyone know how much power the welded and revised MSP LSD can handle? I know the MS3 uses a similar diff (same company and type) so I know they can handle a decent amount (250whpish).

It'd be nice to know where the threshold is between being ok with the MSP one welded and needing a quaife.

a welded revised LSD has never broken that we have sold, no lies. there are cars with around or above 300whp running our welded LSDs right now with no ill effect.

that said, the quaife will perform better. for that much more money, it better :)
