Kartboy shifter too short?
Hi all,
I installed the Kartboy shifter and bushing last night. Really easy 1 hour install and am impressed how the shifter operates. After my initial test drive though, my shoulder was killing me. I drove today to get a better feel and I think the shifter is too short for the height of the seat. I can't imagine this position can be efficient for a taller person. I'm going to give it a week to see if I get used to shifting with my arm pointed down. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just a wimp? |
Lower your seat with the two crank knobs on the side... Try that...
|
That's why I opted to install only the bushings, instead of the shifter. The lever is just too short, in my opinion.
|
seat is adjusted down all the way. Would be nice to have same ergonomics as Miata.
|
This is what I'm wondering is going to bother me about it too. I'm thinking the bushings are going to be all I really want. Sure it looks cool but....
|
hmm.. mines not short enough... i need it about half the size
|
thats why I'm using the B&M.. it sits the highest of all the short shifters there are... only slightly lower than stock..... I hate how all aftermarket shifters are made so damn short
|
Hey, all Kartboy needs to do is make some threaded extensions to increase the length of the shifter back to stock (or maybe stick two extensions together to return to stock length - give people the in-between option).
Am I a marketing genius or what? (Wait, don't answer that! :D ) What I found after installing the Katboy SS is that I shift overhand now, whereas I used to grab the shifter more like a joystick. |
just get a taller shift knob

I am working on making an extension already, much like the stock lever has. I wanted to keep the stock knob for now. I 'll post results. Thanks for inputs. |
If it's that much of a difference to everyone, ... the B&M is an INCH longer than the kartboy shifter, ...
|
I just got a height adjustable shift knob for my Kartboy SS. It's a world of difference. The shift knob makes it a little higher than B&M SS.

Maybe you're driving "ricer style"- your head barely sticks out of the window and seat back is reclined a LOT? I am 5.7" and reach my SS without problems.
As somebody said-get taller shift know like Sparco in MSP. Grow longer arms:) ALex |
LOL- I don't drive "ricer style", but I've seen ppl driving in that position. My position is more like "old man Nascar". It's not matter of reaching, but arm angle.
Arm wouldn't grow so I've made a 2.5" extension and will try it out tomorrow. |
Hahaha. "Ricer Style" position! That's a good one. I didn't know that's what you called it. Haha. I see these small guys driving around in big-wing Accords and all I could see is the top of their heads near the B-pillar.
|
i like to refer to that position as the "teeth puller".......just like when you are at the dentist......LOL
|
Now I'll have to live with that picture in my mind whenever I see someone driving in "ricer-racer" position!
Wife drove car and I'll be installing stock shifter back in:( . She said if it shifted that hard, we would've got the automatic. She uses the car more than I do, so I'll keep the bushing and sell the shifter. Does anyone want to buy a Kartboy SS? E-mail address is "arapau@aol.com". |
Wow I'm glad I didn't have any of these problems. I love the length, and the firmness of the throws, it rules! I just started driving my car again after not having it for six weeks because I broke my elbow. My father (53) loved driving it, so I guess it's just personal opinion.
So the B&M is a whole inch taller...wow! I'm so impressed by some peoples knowledge! |
hey anyone looking at purchasing the kartboy shifter/bushing/knob go here
i am selling full combos for a really low price. this can also be broken down to just one or two of the components! |
