K&N Typhoon Cold Air Intake Kit
 

Have any of you installed the K&N Typhoon Cold Air Intake Kit in your 03 Pro??

I am interested in buying it and was just curious to see what kind of feedback I could get on the product. Thanx!

Go Ebay Save money i got one and have no complaints about it. and if you really want to get a K&N Filter. Wait till rod sees this he will explain it to you more.

Yeah, the entire K&N units are a little pricey...
I bought a generic intake off Ebay for the piping.
I don't entirely trust the Ebay cone filters that come in those kits(they feel cheap) so I found a universal K&N cone filter.
Nice quality, reliable setup for around $60.

Not sure if this is true but... i heard a cold air intake for our cars is not really worth it b/c the air ends up getting heated as it passes through the piping b/c of the route the inatke has to take. is this true???? does anyone know for sure???

Looking at were the radiator and fan and the exh. is I would say its not all false if you go with the short pipe. The short pipe would keep the filter right in the middle of all that heat. How ever if you went with the long pipe that puts the filter be hind the bumper that changes everything. And if your still worried about the pipe heating up you can by some of that heat tape to rap around it to keep the pipe cooler. Dam you get alot for 2 cents!

I'm planning her to get a custom pipe bent at a machine shop that i know, i just haven't started the project yet, but it will look similar to the $200 injen intake, taking the filter all the way to the hole between the front fender and the wheel well in the left hand side of the car. then i'm getting some heat resitant wrap and putting it on the pipe. well see how everything goes,. shall post updates.

Centless, keep me informed on the price you pay, I have been thinking of having on made myself. I you to be a (teck. still am) a machinest and know a few places.

Bijou-MP5 went to a Typhoon CAI from an Injen system. I believe he's said its a marked improvement between the two.

I am thinking of going ebay SRI with a K&N filter, heat resistant wrap, and maybe a duct to bring in cooler air to the engine area...what do you think?

I am no tunner yet! But one sure fire way is to build a boc in the eng. compartment
(light weight aluminum). I know my spelling sucks!
And make a ram port from under the car, or if your like me I am in the middle of buying a junk hood and I want to try to come up with a hood scoop that is on top off the air box but opens with the throtal, like the old cowl induction hoods! This wood make for some head turning, I just don't know how it would look!

I have the K&N Typhoon Kit on my car and have been very impressed with it. For the money I paid for it, I should be though. It's a well-designed kit that keeps the MAF sensor far enough away from the throttle body to reduce vibrational problems there that can screw with the MAF. The filter is top notch and comes with an additional jacket to assist in keeping out water (rain and mist I guess). As with any intake improvement to our cars you'll discover how much more thrilling the upper RPM's can be. Instead of the car running out of breath above 5K like before, it responds with a much stronger pull toward redline.
You can definitly save money on your intake though. I wasn't impressed with the Injen kit, and though I commend the many for saving a great deal of money by getting and Ebay SRI, I myself couldn't. You asked if anyone had the K&N typhoon so my basic reply is yes, I do, and I like it a lot. The End.

hey guys, don't even bother with heat wrapping the intake pipe. have you ever felt your intake manifold after your car's been running for a while? unless you're going to pull out your IM and put some spacers between the head and the IM, it's senseless to wrap your intake pipe.

It's 1.5 vvt engine with 130hp,jus looking for ideas.

A 1.5 with 130hp? That's awesome! Here, the 2.0 had 130hp. That's what most of the people on here have. Are you just looking for mods to make it perform a little better? The 1.5 wasn't ever on the Protege (familia) in North America, so I don't think many of us can give you any specific help.
