Just bought a 3d gen Chirping Gears

i just bought a used third gen and im amazed with the power. It has cams, itake manifold, throttle body, header back, and some timing advancement. I was just starting to beat on it alitte and i put it in third and they chirped so loud.. just thought i would share my first protege experience.. :bigthumb:

*buzzer* wrong.... Post pics please. Half of the mods you listed aren't made for third gen proteges.

Welcome to the forum, now post your pics.

THEGOLDPRO March-20th-2005 03:34 PM

lol, yeah pics would be nice.

dudeondacouch March-20th-2005 07:36 PM

I do not buy this

"I'm amazed with the power...that's why my name is Slow Pro 01"

Hmm chirping third with a 1.8L? You must have some shitty tires and a damn heavy clutch (that you didn't list BTW) so I guess you have the stock clutch.

Maybe this is the guy who was gonna twin-turbo a Protege. That would explain the tire spinning! Me, I can only get it to chirp on the first-second upshift at redline.

Roddimus Prime March-21st-2005 04:51 PM

i can pull my tires at 3rd gear.......but only because I'm running boost.

Jackelope March-21st-2005 05:15 PM

I can chirp on takeoff - that's about it .... (dang automatic) :dunce:

TitaniumMSP March-21st-2005 05:54 PM

2nd gear chirp if the torque steering does not yank the wheel out of my hands LOL....

Slow Pro 01 March-21st-2005 06:22 PM

i will have pics up soon. Bought the car from a local friend Mike Vaccaro who works at a speed shop, maybe he was on this forum..

mthegodfather March-21st-2005 09:27 PM

Imma have to call BS on that one.

You can't break the laws of physics. Given your tires, you will have a certain amount of friction (depending upon the coefficient of the pavement you are on). It will take a set amount of power to break loose your tires based upon the friction they are experiencing. Gearing is also a factor (you can transmit a greater amount of torque in the lower gears, which is what causes your tires to spin). As an example, with the stock Dunlops and my '03 2.0, I can break the tires loose on the 1-2 upshift. I can't do the same with my girlfriend's '99 1.8 with BF Goodrich Radial Touring TAs. No one is saying that you did not do what you said, just that it is highly unlikely. Hence the request for pictures to help us understand what you have under the hood.

I love engineering!
