Jerkiness of 2.0L at low revs
 

If crusing at a low speed in 1st or 2nd, say in heavy traffic, with revs between about 1500-2000 -- unless I'm FEATHER light on the gas, being even just 'easy' causes the car to jerk, until slightly above 2000.

Do any of you guys experience this, and is there a way to fix it?? Perhaps t-cable tension??

yup i thought i was just a lousy standard driver..well i still think i am but now i think it has to do more with that number 3 motor mount, it's too flexible...Well of course i dont' know for sure but what i remember on my old 626 when the old motor mount went, I really noticed it cause the shifting was really jery at low speeds.

yeah replacing the motor mount gets rid of that jerkiness. i plan to do so in the future. what I do is just use the clutch a lot... its a pain though

when i got my catback the jerkiness almost went away...theres much more less of it at low rpms....is it because i lost some low end torque witht he wider mandrel piping and 2 resonators?

I noticed that a lot as well... although since I got my new clutch things seem a lot better... wayyyyy smoother accel out of a turn in 2nd.... is niiiiice!

The guys on a budget might want to consider the grounding mod. A friend of mine with a P5 got great results with a DIY grounding mod. Even got better radio reception...a pair of my friends noticed improved driveability after doing the grounding mod. The car would pull from low RPMs more easily and my friend's Civic stopped bucking like a rodeo horse.

On the other hand, it could be that engine mount.

It's the motor mounts. I replaced mine with the AWR's and the jerkiness has gone away. It does have a little bit of vibration at idle. Another alternative is the MSP #3 mount or doing the window weld to the stock mounts. I did the grounding mod, nothing changed.

FYI, This has been discussed many many times, it's a common complaint.

I hate to burst some bubbles but the jerkiness isn't from the motor mounts or grounding cables or catback exhausts. The jerkiness in the P5 comes from the super high final drive ratio. When applying the gas after a cruising situation it causes massive torque. THE MOTOR MOUNTS HELP THIS!! The AWR mounts help hold everything in place to reduce how much jerk you feel, but it's not the fault of the motor mount. My wife's mustang has very high gearing in it and it does the same thing, however my honda civic has a very low gear and it's smooth as sillk, almost too smooth! To fix it, just replace the mounts. I would recommend the front mount only as I've heard the rear mount is extremely difficult to get to and causes a much harsher ride. Front mount should do just fine!

Roddimus, have you looked at the motor mounts on your honda? I just put a timing belt on my civic and the mounts are about 3 times the size of the mazdas- and I think they have 5 mounts.
I understand what you are saying-you are correct. BUT, Mazda didn't make the mounts strong enough to deal wth the "Massive" amounts of torque. So I consider it the mounts fault-the mount is supposed to hold the engine in place. I would also suggest checking the mounts on the stang, they're probably shot.

Its weird cause the jerkiness in my P5 went away since I replaced the stock intake to AEM. the whole time I thought maybe the stock intake is causing the car to choke at low speeds..
maybe I am just used to the car now than before..;)

Does anyone know what the part number for the MSP motor mount is? I tried to do a search and found nothing. I would like to stick it in my ES.

Honda only has 2 motor mounts and 2 tranny mounts. It's an LX 5-spd. The mounts are huge, you're right. I also agreed with you. The mount will correct the problem it's the CAUSE of the problem we disagree on! The torque of the bigger motor and the steepness of the final gear causes it to work the mount harder.
