Which intake should I buy????
 

I have just purchased my car and want to buy an intake system.... I have been reading alot about problems with the Injen and AEM systems. Can you guys help me make up my mind?
List the Pros and Cons of the systems that you own and what model you have. Thanx in advance.

The only problems I've heard about with the Injens are with the 1.6L version. There shouldn't be any problems with the 2.0L version. At least I hope not, cause I just ordered one :D .

I just installed the Injen CAI on my 2000 1.6L and it works great. no probs at all.

just make sure U disconnect the battery first.

so there is hope that my injen untake will work on my 1.6l b/c Cactusboy19 intake works and he has no problems anyone else didnt have any problems at all with the 1.6l?

I have the Injen, but then again I have a 2.0...

it works GREAT...and it LOOKS great too.

the ONLY problems I have heard of ANYONE having, no matter what engine they have is if they have the automatic tranny...then SOME people have had a rub problem with the master cylinder....

so other than that...I vote for the Injen. oh yeah...and I vote for the POLISHED version too...i likes shiney things!

AEm has the problem with the auto tranny because they were so cheap to use the same intake designed for the 1.8L. I don't think the 2.0 L engine is that much different than the 1.8 L, but something is different because the fit is terrible. People with the auto tranny and the 2.0 L engine cannot use the same intake as the people with a 5 speed 2.0 L Protege because the tranny is in the way, so AEM has the same intake they developed for the 1.8L Protege as the one to use on a 2.0 L Protege with auto tranny.

The 1.8L is the same as the 2.0 in all aspects except the rods and crank. The only difference in the engine bay is that the motor is shifted slightly to the passengers side to accomidate the G series Tranny. My advice for anyone wanting an intake though is go to www.jcwhitney.com and buy some mandrel bends 2.5" diameter and make your own. Its not hard and 2 90 bends is all you will need and get some rubber couplings from lowes. There is a good writeup on how to make a intake on www.clubsol.com i believe is the site. Granted its on a del sol but the concept is the same. You will turn out jsut as good with about 150 bucks in your pocket still.

i got a AEM short on a 1.8L auto and i love the drive and the fit. i will post pics tomorrow. :) my day off....

This confirms that there is something different with the 2.0L Proteges with auto tranny!
