Intake Resonator Plumbing

All:

Being an avvid import enthusiast in the past and now owning a P5, I wanted to see the performance increase in removing the intake plumbing up to the airbox. I have seen many posts here in the past, but thought I'd give my own opinion on a new post.

Last night I had removed the horizontal member that goes from headlight to headlight. I noticed that was just 2 nuts and lift up and off. Man, just looking at it amazed me. I then proceeded to remove two more bolts to remove the vertical piping from the airbox. I then secured the airbox back down to the original rightmost bolt. Just staring at both pieces makes me wonder why (besides to make the car quiet) someone in their right mind would do this.

When looking into the engine bay with all of this removed (I'll post a digital pic up soon) the bay looked so much nicer and much more open.

Leaving the car in this scenario I had definitely noticed a GREATER and more IMPROVED throttle response, off the line pep, and continuous RPM'age while driving through the entire power band in various driving configurations (stop and go, gas it, etc.). The sound is a bit more noisy than stock (well, I can here the car idle now a tiny bit in a garage than stock of not knowing it is even on). Under WOT it is a quiet deep tone, but still stock sounding by other car comparisons.

This is a definite MUST DO modification.

I will probably purchase an K&N drop in filter. However, for a "cleaner look" I would propbably purchase an CAI of sorts.

Hope this outlook helps other people.

Dude I did that same thing, but didn't notice much of an increase- even after the K&N. If you do go with the CAI, it will give you more than a cleaner look- the car will feel faster and the extra noise makes it sound faster.

some did what you did and then ran a piping to collect cool air away from the radiator. but yes a CAI would look alot cleaner
