intake problem

I have a 00 1.6L protege. I recently installed an intake for the 1.8L that i bought from ebay. I modify it by drilling a bigger hole for the MAF and sealed it with silicon. There are no leaks. But the car starts and dies, i'm assuming the car is getting too much air. i'm using 3" in piping. Any info that can help. thanks

jster28, please clarify:
You're using 3" diameter piping
OR
extra 3" of piping were used in order to fit the 1.8's intake to your 1.6?

check how you maf is mounted inside the piping...most likely it is mounted with the airlow in the wrong direction, or your seal isnt good..glopping silicone around it isnt good enough...best bet is to get a bicycle inner tube and make a gasket....also make sure the MAF is clean..if not you need to get some alcohol and a cotton swap and be VERY careful and clean it up....it isnt the size of the tubing, trust me!!!
