Injen Vs AEM
 

For the buck which system is better the AEM short ram or the Injen Cold air system?

I think i'm going to go with the Injen system if i can find it in stock.

The Injen is no good for the protege, the ECU doesn't read cold air, even the guys at Mazda say AEM is the way to go for this car.

And that my friend is total crap. AEM's design did not yield any improvement between a CAI and their Shorty, so they saved production costs ( in the end its cheaper for consumers as well) and only offer the Short Ram intake. Injen just made a CAI and that's it. As for the best bang for your buck, heh well I was shopping all over the internet and the average low price I could find for the Injen was ~$240, the cheapest I could find the AEM was for around ~$200. I figured I would save myself a little chedda and go with the AEM since their CAI yielded no gains. But..... I called up a local store here in Oregon looking for the AEM for my car and they did not have it in stock, they said they had the Injen in stock, so for shits and giggles I asked how much, they replied $180. I said holy shit hold mofo I be right there. The CAI is not bad for the Protege, perhaps the ECU does not take full use of the true cold air system, but its not harming it. I could definitely feel an improvement in my p5 when I slapped my Injen on. And I have no regrets with the decision I made either. Perhaps later on a preformance chip for our rides will be released and it will take full advantage of the cold air. Oh well that's my take on it.

OK, if the ECU doesn't read cold air, that means there a no HP gain, and i've read and that the AEM give at least 3-4 HP, and I don't know about you but if i'm going to spend 200$ on an intake I want to see some HP gain.

Yak yak yak, and I've read that the Injen gives 8-12 hp ( I doubt those numbers but you CAN feel the improvement). Whether or not the ecu reads the cold air or not, its still gonna have relativley the same amount of increased airflow into the engine. As a matter of fact I believe the Injen flows more than the AEM. So like I said the Injen will be giving you the same if not more performance increase than the AEM, just the Injen might not be fully utilized due to the cold air aspect. But if you look at where the AEM filter is mounted, it looks like its air would be fairly cold as well, its pointed in the general direction of where the Injen goes, just the Injen actually goes into the wheel well. So think about it.

Anyway, I still haven't done anything yet to mine all I did was put a cone intake on the stock pipe, but i'm upgrading soon, and i'm still debating which to put:dunno: , I might just go with the better price.

Heh there ya go you hit the hammer right on the fuckin shaft. The chedda woooooo! See I was gonna go AEM, till I found that Injen for only $180. They are both very good intakes, and I would've put either or one on. But when it came down the chedda, Injen won. Peace out.

Options Auto Salon sells the AEM for $185 & the Injen cold air system for $220.

Sadly they are both out of stock :(

Both are pretty expensive here in canada, with injen being the most expensive. Dealers here aren't budging on the price yet, so i'm just sitting waiting for now :rolleyes:

i got the AEM for $310 before taxes...and i'm glad i bought it, you get definate improved throutle(sp) response, and the engine breaths alot better at higher rpms (in other words easier to redline :bt: )

I got the AEM for $163 on ebay. It was factory sealed in the box and everything. I haven't installed it yet because it is way too cold up here.
The AEM for auto P5's is the same number as for 1.8L models. It doesn't curve down near the tranny, it is more like the Ractive intake but shorter still. Eventually I'll post a pic when it is installed.

thanks for the pic nightowl. I'm leaning toward getting Injen, but AEM is looking good as well :doh: They both look sweet in our engines...... I guess either one would be good enough. Just gotta see what the prices are like when i pick it up.

Come to Oregon man and hit up this place called Speed Concept. Its a complete ricer store, but they got shit cheap. I mean $180 for the Injen? Come on I dare anyone to find it cheaper, like from a retail place I mean, not e-bay or a friend's used one or sumthin. I'm not sure what how much the AEM one was, but if the Injen was $180 I could only imagine waht they would let the AEM go for. And yeah, I'm sure you would be happy with either one.

The debate is still going on I guess noone does searches anymore.

Please do some research on your own and do not take my word or a guy from Mazda.

AEM just tested 3 of there setups against Injen and even AEM admits that the Injen gained more HP(on AEM's website). There are even more facts out there it just takes some time to look unless you are lazy and prefer to be mis-informed.
