Injen Intake questions
 

Unfortunately, i have noticed a drop in milage in my car recently. Went from about 320 miles per tank of gas to about 260miles per tank under normal driving conditions. I suspect that my intake be the culprit. I took a peek at it the other day and noticed that it was filthy. I looked around the web and found out that the filter is cleanable. 1st q, how do i clean it? 2nd q, what do i clean it with, 3rd q, if I cant clean it, which replacement filter should i buy. The injen intake model number is: RD6060P

Go up to your local AutoZone and buy the filter cleaning fit from K&N. Somewhere $10-20 if I recall correctly. Comes with a degreaser to remove the oil/dirt, and then after it dries, oil to coat the filter with before reinstalling. There are other solutions besides the filter kit. Remember the cotton filters are fragile, so no hot water (shrinkage) and no high pressure air (tears). Otherwise, the filters are pretty much universal, what works on cleaning one should work for cleaning yours. Good luck!

How many miles do you have on the Injen?? the washable ones only need to be cleaned like once every 15,000 miles....Make sure it is a cleanable filter,I didnt think Injens came with them..
If not a local auto parts has a replacement cone filter for like $20 anyway

The Injen's do indeed come with a cleanable filter. Also, take macdaddyslomo's advice, not what the cleaning kit says about mileage. They claim something absurd like clean every 50,000 miles...something rediculous! 10-20,000 miles is more like it.

the type/brand of filter is nowhere near as important as the condition of the filter.

Drove around 40,000 miles on the intake. Brought the K&N filter cleaner today and cleaned the heck outta it. The filter is still a little bit on the brown color. Havent noticed any significant gains as of yet. Gonna fill her up and go on my roadtrip tomorrow. Also, when i was browsing online, replacement filter was about $48.00 plus shipping. I went to autozone and brought the cleaning solution for about $9.00. Not too shabby, only took a couple of hours because the instructions stated to fully air dry. Also as of note, 40k miles is a bit too much between cleanings eh?

be careful about OVER OILING a filter like that. The surgical paper those filters are made of have big holes in them and if that oil coats your hotwire on your MAF you can have problems from driveability up to and including MAF failure.

THAT is why I prefer just a paper filter with a lot of surface area.

Warning duly noted. Followed instructions on box to a tee. Completely air dry filter, spray oil about 3inches away from each pleat (DO NOT SPRAY IN A CIRCULAR MOTION), let soak for 20 minutes and respray any dry spots. We will know tonight how it works, i guess.
