Injen CARB sticker?

Ive seen contradicting information regarding the CARB sticker for the injen CAI. does it come shipped with one? How would I obtain one if it doesn't?

eggynatey July-20th-2003 07:37 PM

Yes it does. I think the only way you can get one is to buy an Injen intake. :)
That's it right where the vacuum hose connects.(sorry about the blurry pic.)

Unless you bought it from California, I don't think any of them come with them...The stickers are only needed in California becuase of that ridiculous, flawed system for keeping the air clean...No other North American region is involved with it...

why is this CARB sticker so important to you?

toucci July-23rd-2003 03:57 PM

so I can pass the smog test

I am going to bitch about CARB for a minute...

Technically you will pass the smog test without the sticker...But if you don't have the sticker you will not pass the "underhood inspection test" CARB covers an important aspect of enviromental safety, but the way they go about it is completely wrong...

I forget what CARB stands for but it is basically a board of political personel and paper-pushers set out to do a couple of things...First to help clean up the air and reduce smog in California, which is a problem...Second, to give cops and law enforcers another option on ticketing...and Third, to make money...

The system works as follows...at every inspection a vehicle takes a "sniffer" test to verify the vehicle is within the limits of a number of polutants (CO, unburned hydrocarbons, etc.). This is the part that makes sense...They force vehicle owners to have their car tested to make sure it is not causing more air pollution than needed. The second part is what sucks. They then require an underhood inspection test in which any non-stock components (such as intakes, exhuasts, turbo's, whatever) must be labeled with a CARB sticker...The sticker apperantly proves that the part has gone through the $1000s of testing by the manufacturer and has been given the sticker to show that it does not make the emissions worse...No sticker on an intake, you fail...

There is the contradiction though, "most" aftermarket performance parts do not hurt emissions...In a lot of cases they actually promote a more efficient engine that creates LESS pollution...and the smog "sniffer" test shows this...But when the inspector looks under the hood and sees a non-CARB certified part you fail the test and are issued a 30-day registration ticket to get the part replaced...All of this even if the part gives better emissions...

This system also allows cops to drone after countless modified imports and give out $200 tickets for an intake without a CARB sticker...It all comes down to money...If the underhood inspection was not required, hundreds of paper pushing middle men would not be needed, and the CARB board would not profit from companys like Injen paying $7,000 or more for a series of tests just to get the sticker...It also drives up the price the consumer pays for the product...

after driving through san bernadino and riverside california you totally know why they have CARB restrictions, although it should just be requiring cars to be LEV and none of this sticker crap. I could totally get headers and still be within LEV range but i cant. Oh well, I'd rather live in socal and deal with these problems than not :D
