Injen CAI and road trip?
 

I got my Injen CAI today!!! One thing though. I'm going to Spokane tomorrow (about a 2 hour drive) and was wondering if the intake would be alright with that drive so soon, or if it needs to "break in?"

I got mine ealier this week. I have noticed that there is a clicking noise that I can hear when the car is idle at a red light for instance. I'm gonna chck tonight if everything is secure , nice n tight.

I don't think you have to break in the CAI, but it would be good to install it and take a lil short trip around the neighborhood just to make sure before you go on that trip. :eek:

As long as it is installed correctly, you will be fine....

what's there to "break-in" on an intake?

there's no moving parts. just a filter and piping.
if it was OLD then you may want to replace the filter but
it requires no "break-in" period. Just reset the ecu and
you will be fine.

Should be fine, I installed my custom CAi the day before I left on my road trip from phoenix, AZ to Redmond, WA and it was fine all the way up. (3in tubing, K&N Filter)

Some other ECU's are said to need to "learn" a mods changes, and at first will not work properly until the ECU recognizes the changes and does something about it...

I don't think this applys to 3rd gen protege's, especially at WOT...The sensors aren't being used to determine fuel requirements and the change isn't significant enough for the certain fuel maps to not work properly (this is also why the gains are not that impressive, the ECU doesn't change a whole lot which could promote more power if it did)...At partial throttle I am not sure, but the closed loop system should recognize the changes quickly and change anything if needed...

No break-in period, but keep an eye on the filter. Make sure it doesn't fall off!

I had a hard time clamping the air filter onto my Injen CAI, because of its position up in the fender. After a thousand miles or so, I noticed that the filter had vibrated off and was rolling around in the fender! :eek:

So I wrapped a piece of duct tape around the bottom of the pipe, thinking that would provide a bit more friction than the polished tube. And I clamped that mofo on there really tight. It hasn't been a problem since then.

So you might want to figure out what tools you need to take the thing apart and put it back together and make sure you've got those with you on the trip.

Well, with the help of "mechanically skilled" friends we installed the intake last night! It sounds pretty cool, I especially love the sound when the engine is turned off! Thanks for all your help, truly appreciated!
