when I put the filter on the end of my MAF (for the 2 days a year it rains here in so cal) it's not the nicest looking setup. the filter isn't really suspended to anything, so when you're driving around it's banging all over everything under the hood. I usually wrap a towel around the MAF and around the second piece of pipe to protect the sensor from smacking the battery or something and to protect the filter from tearing on the second pipe section. But from the looks of the mount on the Injen, it holds that second piece on pretty well. You may not be able to move it out of the way enough to get the cone on the end of the MAF. The intake I made has a mount coming up from the same spot in the engine bay as the injen, but it runs to the part of the pipe before the 90 degree turn into the wheel well, so it's easy to move out of the way when needed. Its hard to explain, I'll try to post a pic tomorrow.

how about this:

you know how there are air filters with a hole in the middle of the cone? well, it's not really a hole, it's actually more surface area for the filter. anyway, would it be a good idea to insert the second pipe from the injen into this hole? then the second pipe will act as a brace for the shortened intake. and since the second pipe is connected to the rubber anti-vibration mount, it's super flexible and can handle getting shoved in there. what do you guys think? will this work? if anyone has a filter like this, can you try it? i'm short on cash for the moment, so i won't be able to try this till much later. thanks in advance.

but with that design it would be sucking air from both filters, eliminating the need for a CAI (as it would always be getting warm air from under the hood anyways)

sorry, let me clarify. when you put your filter on the end of your MAF, and you got the banging thing going, you had to wrap the to pieces in towel. what i'm saying then, is instead of having to wrap it in a towel, i just insert the second pipe inside the inner walls of the filter temporarily. when the weather dries up, i remove the cheap cone filter.

so the second pipe will go inside the hole there. there won't be enough suction to suck up the water from the injen filter in the wheel well cubby hole. can you try this since you are already doing what i am planning on doing now? thanks a lot.

hmmmm this sounds pretty hocky to me. Loose parts banging around, towels holding the thing together. There arent any belts on that side of the engine but that doesnt mean it cant eventually snag on something. There is a real threat that the filter will fall off and expose the intake to the world.

i'm a poor college student but you should spend some money and get some quality parts.

the filter is held on by a hose clamp and will not fall off unless I yank on it as hard as I can. The towels are just there to keep my pipe from banging into the filter and tearing it. The setup is never used for more than a day or 2 at a time. It's just while it's raining and I don't want to run the CAI. If you can think of a better way to do it, I'm open for suggestions.
