where the hell do you guys hit 100+ speeds
down here, in N.VA, if you hit 85mph, you'll be lucky to get
away without a ticket , and I dunno of it is the same, put around 70mph,
the rpm is around 3K....is that normal?

Phantom Cruiser Mar 1, 2003 11:01 AM

We've hit 120 plenty of times....on the highway of course!

Good luck with your mods!

Pro00 you should get a radar detector man, i know they're illegal in VA but my friends there just come up to MD and buy one. Yea it wont help you much if your going 100plus but its just extra peace of mind. And my friend in fairfax hits like 130plus on the dulles toll road

yeah, but you have a 2.0L:rolleyes:

BTW P-R-O-T-E-G-E, a spoiler does add enough drag to slow down your top speed. I know cause I have one. But no matter what others say, it does keep the car a little more stable at higher speeds. Well, at least better than without a spoiler.

120? Damn he he. Becarefull out there man. Fairfax is no joke. Radar detectors do help a bit. See, I live in PG. I don't drive fast all the time. Lord knows the cops out here are a little trigger happy, so I don't need to give them any reasons. I only busted 105 when I was on mountain roads in New York at night with like no one out there. It sucks I couldn't go any faster. Ill work on that!!

Any sort of a spoiler on a protege is purely for looks. We're not driving Ferrari's on the Autobahn here. You're not going to go fast enough to create any usuable downforce. And downforce creates drag, not reduce it.

Installshield Mar 3, 2003 03:00 PM

and notice that a lot of Ferrari's don't have spoilers, let alone those gay Terminators. 360's have a complex air system under the car that diffuses and splits air underneath the chassis to maintain stability at 150+mph...One of the only truely noticable functional spoilers I have seen on a production car is the 911's "whale tale". The newer ones don't even raise until higher speeds are reached. there are a few more functional spoilers on production cars from the factory, but most are for looks.

I know man, Fairfax cops all over the place, and they are sneaky
where they hide. In my street, there were three cops, all positioned in different spots, catching speeders like there is no tommorrow. Nah man, i rarely speed, max I've done in 20+ on the highway, but on city streets, 5-10 mph extra. speeding is not worth the ticket, plus, we have a camaro cop around here, and he is f$#%ing fast!!!

P-R-O-T-E-G-E Mar 4, 2003 02:27 PM

HE HE

You have the high persuits cops out there!! My friend got busted by one. He got slapped with wreckless endangerment, fleeing and evading, excesive speeding all kinds of stuff out there at Fairfax!! He has one of those ricers!! Then he had to go to court for it and he thought they would wait his case later, but his turned out to be the first one!!! lol He got there late and waited through the whole proceedings. And didn't know they called him already. Failure to apear!! They told him, so he ran out the courthouse!!! Oops!!! What a dummy!!! lol

True about the performance cars

True the ferrari's do have a system like the mclearen f1, its almost like a wide tube under the car, built into the body. The air passes under and over makeing almost a suction. They say technically the mclearen if going fast enough the force from that system would be enough to hold upside down. This was on a documentary that I saw once. Of course there was no demonstration lol!

Installshield Mar 4, 2003 04:51 PM

Mario Andretti claimed that the Mclaren F1 had terrible aerodynamics however...He drove some of the fastest road cars in the world in test in 99 I think, and said that it felt extremely light at speed. He said it would twitch over a lane at a time with no steering input, and that the aerodynamics needed serious work. He reached a top speed of around 217mph on a 105 degree day in Texas.
