Idle

I was wondering if I could adjust the idle on my P5. After installing those Sparkco wires, I noticed my Pro wanted to die on me when I was sitting at a light, the idle was 500 to >500 at times, and it sounded like it wanted to stall on me. Could this be due to my SRI and the hot air from my engine? Thats what my dad suggested. If I were to remove the silencer from my muffler, it would die for sure, as the idol drops a 100 RPM's or so as well.

You can adjust it, and I shouldn't hurt anything. I adjusted mines to like 1000-1300 RPM. I don't have a P5, but I have a 2000 LX. It should be the same way.

Nah, the dealer definitely won't do that.

Hmmm...thats kinda hard for me to explain since I don't know the part names, but I'll try. I'll take pics and show you if this doesn't help.

My idle adjus...what a second, I got a pic. I think.:)

Your engine is somewhat similar to mines in layouts. The part that I circled is the rpm/idle adjuster. It will only take like 5-10secs. Just take a philips or flathead screwdriver and rotate to 'I think' the right. Have the car running when you do it so you can hear it change. Hearing the car will let you know whether you need to turn it left or right.

BTW, the dealership may turn it down without letting you know:mad: They did that to me. I realized when I was at the light and it was extremely quiet. I was like:wtf: Once I got back home I turned it back up.:D

Don't touch that screw. Stay away from it. You did something to screw up your idle, figure out what you did wrong and fix it. That is one of the major no-no's.

If you absolutely have to mess with it let the dealership do it. They will probably find what you messed up in the first place, bill you for it, and fix it.

OK, I run R/C cars, and if all I have to do is change the idle with a screw driver, thats easy...but all of you are saying STAY AWAY...Ill try the dealer first...if they turn me away, Ill have to do it myself then, no choice, as I dont want the car dying on me at a light...BTW thanks for all of the prompt imput...and I dont think the dealer will like my car that much, they are sooo gonna rape my wallet to fix it...the sparkco wires really lowered my idle and I know my muffler will cause it to drop more, part of the reason why I have my silencer on...I think thats all that could affect my idle....AHHHHHH THIS SUCKS!

Well after the second time the dealer did mines. I didn't see/feel any difference from me and them.:dunno:

TheMAn knows more than I do. I would trust him before me.
