How to Replace Alternator? 1999 Protege ES

ok i recieved my new alternator today, so I jack the car up and proceed to remove the faulty one thats in there.

i have completely gotten the alternator off the brackets that hold it in but, HOW do you get it out? a friend of mine who has an accord told me all imports must have the engine lifted to get to the alternator i call bs, but he may be right, I cannot get it out!

I searched and read other threads regarding this, i deduced that the power steering line must be moved out of the way, but now i have my driveway just plastered with power steering fluid... and no alternator out yet.

any suggestions? i have bought the haynes manual, thinking of buying a Mazda shop manual.

the car is a 1999 Protege ES 1.8L.

Help!

I believe that for your model year car there is a Haynes manual. My suggestion is to go buy one if no one helps you out here. I would help but know nothing of the matter either.

already bought it, slick. it is worthless. also i finished doing the alternator, works fine, but i had to remove like alot of stuff like the engine dipstick, cruise control, and power steering hose and some other hose. a real big PITA for changing the alternator.

now there is a high pitched squeel coming from my engine and also my engine is rattling, sounds like an old abused 1st gen they used at the driving school lol. (no offense to those fine 1st gens out there)
