how much power can we handle
hey everybody now dont jump on me i did a search and for some reason it aint workin for me. my question is does anyone know about how much HP / TQ can the fs- de run SAFELY before we start snaping rods and things? curious thanks :)

From what I hear, you run into tranny problems before engine failures, but it's pretty much all speculation since no one really has a super-fast 3rd gen. I read that the boost on the MSP isn't to be over 10 or 12lbs because of internal issues. Don't know what that works out to in hp though.

so to handle more what would you have to change other that rods, where can i get rods if they are sold, better ones forged?

ok cool i wanted to go turbo too later but i am working on my head now and want to do great things with it too so if i run about 8 lbs sometime later i should be ok right:) THANKS |
as far as internals you'd need new rods, pistons, etc....and while you're at it you might as well get new valve springs etc....i would do all of this first if you know you're going to boost it....that way you don't have to worry about anything but the transmission....of course you'll need a new ECU...but that goes without saying i would think
the same block and transmission(albeit with different ratios) is used in the racing proteges on speedvision world challenge or whatever....the engine is NA and puts about 240-250 to the wheels |
damn i wish i knew how then i would not have to boost, 250 to the wheels NA thats awsome

the MSP is set at 5.2 psi no wher enear 10-12 as it is JUST A STOCK FS-DE WITH A TURBO KIT SLAPPED ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How many times do i have to say that.

As others here have said, you're going to have a problem with the transmission before you need to begin worrying about engine internals. The MSP was limited to 150whp (170 crank hp) intentionally so that the transmission would perform reliably for thousands of miles. Just by putting on a bigger down pipe, bigger exhaust, and turning up the boost to 8psi Mazda could have easily put out more power from the MSP, they just didn't want the expense of developing/finding a beefier tranny that would fit in the MSP. It's always cheaper to stick with the corporate parts bin.
If you are serious about "building" you engine, I would check out Crower for rods, valves, valve springs, etc. |
research JE and crower. then deside if you have the bank. if so, more power to you!
