High Flow Cat?
 

Does anyone know of a high flow catalytic converter for the Protege5? I've installed an Injen CAI and Bosal Exhaust and feel that to maximize the upgrade I need to get rid of the restrictive stock cat. I do wish to remain legal for my emmisions tests.

I had my local shop cut out my OEM Cat. and weld in a High Flow Random Tech. cat. It came with papers saying it meet emisson requirments. It had 2in. dia. in and out pipes and was all stainless steel.

I agree with Jesse if you are going to get a high flow get a Catco just as good performance with alot lower price tag. In fact I have a 12" model with 2.5" inlet and outlet that I would be willing to sell that hads never been installed. If you are interested Hit me up chdesign1998@aol.com

The stock exhaust has either a second cat, or resonator, along with the stock muffler. Changing the primary cat shouldn't increase sound output much at all. Maybe I'm missing something, but changing the primary cat on any protege with a high flow replacement would be difficult because of the stock cats placement. Actually, Protege Menace made a good point, unless you replace the exhaust manifold and primary cat with headers, which is a better idea, hollowing out the primary cat would probably be the only way to bypass it.

A little bumpage due to my searching.

Not wanting to remove the cat entirely I'm looking at a shorty header from www.essentialspeed.com and a high flow cat. Will this come close to replicating the power gains from a long tube header like the AWR? My hope is that it will while not getting the dreaded CEL.
