Headers???

Anyone seen headers out for the P5?
I've been looking because after i get mine i'm putting a nice exhaust on it, and and exhaust i do I gotta get performance headers to match.

Thanks.

The search button is your friend

search for header

AWR header

And it's HEADER not headerS. Being an inline four, we only have one.

Thank you. Drive through.

lol actually i believe he was refering to knowing if there were and headers on the market... meaning more than one is being made, possibly m ore than one company....

so actually, i would say he used HEADERS in the correct way, but then again he may have ment what you thought....lol :D

Bosal 4-2-1 header for the 2.0l Probe/MX-6 (works, but must be modified)

Phantom,

Can you tell us what needs to be modified? I know the EGR hookups don't line up, and are of different sizes, but what about the rest? I know it bolts right up to the engine, but does it bolt right up to the exhaust under the car? Is the EGR the only mod needed?

Thanks,
Chris

Hey come on now. I'm the last person you should tell to search. I read that thread before I posted my reply. The original poster of that thread asked if it mates to the exhaust under the car without modification, and that question was never answered. Nor was it answered in any of the other Bosal header threads. That is why I asked it. I know the EGR needs to be modified. I want to know if it bolts up to the exhaust on the Protege.

Traveler's Header

How about Traveler's Header? Has anyone purchased one from him? I've seen a few references to it, but noone actually having installed it. Obviously can't give the gains of a 4-2-1 eliminating cat, but looks to be decent, especialy for anyone worried about removing it.

For those interested in the shorty header style you might also want to look at www.essentialspeed.com. They make a shorty header for the Protege that sells for $600 CDN. Very nice people and very responsive to questions.

I'm thinking of going this route to avoid the CEL issue raise with the long tube style header.

I'm thinking the short header, custom down pipe,a nd high flow cat would come close to getting the results of the long tube header. At least that's my hope as I price out the system further I'll let you know.

BTW any suggestions on downpipe diameter? Would 2.5" be sufficient or could I get away with less. I'm thinking of removing my current one and having a local muffler shop duplicate the bends in a larger diameter pipe.

Thanks

I was under the impression the essentialspeed will not be making the shorty style at this point (due to their initial tests)???

Bluethumb July-22nd-2003 12:13 PM

Well it is on their website, so I guess I'm mistaken.

Tornado July-22nd-2003 12:24 PM

I sent them an email the other day and they seemed to indicate it was shipping. Quoted me a price shipped to Nova Scotia. I don't know too much about them myself. I'll email them back and see if they have any dyno charts on the header's performance and let you guys know.

Tornado,

Any luck on obtaining a dyno? They must have done one. Understandably it may not look that impressive, if that little stock down pipe was used, but I'd still like to see it.

I think Tornado is correct in his statement about combining it with a custom downpipe (it is very small afterall) - who knows, that pipe could account for half (or more) of any power gains.

Anyone else? Nobody with Traveler's header? Traveler?

I guess I could do it in the name of research :p (and probably will), but it'd be nice to see at least some positive feedback before I go and spend any $$.

I spoke to Kevin at Essential speed and he said he had a combined dyno chart and wasn't sure about having one with just the header. I think they did a bunch of runs with different parts and combined them all. I asked if it would be possible to just give me the numbers that I didn't need the whole chart.

As soon as I get info I'll post it. He also mentioned that the stock cat is quite big, 5" throughput, but as someone said the intake is probably smaller, which would be a point of restriction.

Anyway as I sort through the info as it comes in I'll let you all know.

FYI I also asked him what the cost would be on him making a custom downpipe.

downpipe

I saw this on another board. Might be of some help
http://www.wagnermotorsports.net/products.htm
I think this down pipe combined with a shorty header like Travelers would make a good combo. I also read somewhere(I will try to find it) Wagner also makes the downpipe with a Random technologies high flow cat that bolts directly to our exhaust manifold. Worth looking into. Someone should call them and find out what all they have.
Anyway, the downpipe alone should be worth some gains.

purePro5 July-24th-2003 03:30 PM

here is the link to the other board where I saw the downpipe with cat.

Looks pretty good to me. Scroll about half way down for the picture. The post is kind of tedious, but there is some good info in there if you can sift through the BS.
