Header Wrap?
 
If one were to wrap a header, would it make the temp under the hood stay down. The real question is, can do good or cause harm. I've heard to many pros/cons about header wrap.

I'm interested in this myself. Did a search on the forum and the only thing that came up was this thread:

Could you be more specific as to why it is good? Better than having a heat shield ?

i have to agree
for street use a good heat shield (which you can make yourself)
is ideal

i would stick with the wrap for track use only when every bit helps for good #'s

What if you wrap the headers AND have a heat shield? Wouldn't that be even better?

If you intend to use header/exhaust wrap on a street driven vehicle:

1. Make sure it is wrapped tight! There should be no slack, loose spots anywhere.

2. Follow the directions on the box exactly (usually 1/4 overwrap is recommended in the directions).

3. USE a silicone sealant spray! Make sure you cover every inch of the heat wrap (not any old silicone but the type you get from DEI that withstands 1300 degrees Fahrenheit).

4. If you live in a place like western washington (where I live) and have to deal with 300 days of rain out of the year you might want to just skip the header/exhaust wrap.

I think the wrap is a good idea depending on where you live. Even if you live in a moist climate, the wrap is a lot cheaper than the headers and can be changed out often. it might get tedious, but, it is your car, and you should baby it:D Anyway, I think the best(cheapest) way to go would be to buy the aluminized headers, galvanize them, and wrap them. Buy an extra role of wrap and it will still be cheaper than the coated ones without wrap. Just my opinion.
