Fuel filter?

I'm looking to find the fuel filter on an 01 Protege 2.0? Is it in the engine bay or gas tank?
Thanks.

Gas tank. Next to the spare tire if I can remember right. What are you trying to do with it?

Ugh its in the tank? :( Oh i was wanting to replace it if it was in the engine bay... but forget that idea. :) Is that the only fuel filter? How often do they need replaced? Thanks.

It's not very easy to replace, and as far as I know it doesn't really need to be very often ... if ever. I wouldn't worry about it much, just keep your air filter clean, change your oil filter on a regular basis along with the oil, check your sparkplugs every 30,000 miles or so for carbon buildup and replace them if needed. Other than that, you shouldn't have to worry about any other regular maintenance.

As far as I know it's supposed to be a lifetime filter....
