Fs-ze Switch?

Anyone have any info on a J-spec switch for the 00 1.6 ? Mainly curious about the ECU and trans compatibility.

jsin January-12th-2002 02:07 PM

I am stationed @ camp Zama, Japan. I have easy access to J-spec parts for my Pro. I have a 2.0 liter fs ze engine. Before I attemp a switch I could use some info.......can i use the j-spec ecu and is the bell housing pattern interchangeable. I am sure the switch has been done, any help is appreciated.

coming from owning a honda civic Si (1999) with the B16A2 engine and it came be swapped directly into any integra and civic. this goes to for the higher displacement GS-R B18C5. my point is this. the FS-ZE engine bolts in the exact same (as i understand) as the one in your car. at the very least it will bolt-in. my advice to you is to get the engine WITH the ECU it comes with as yours wont work. its tuned for a 1.6L engine not an 170hp 2Litre motor. also to minimise install probs, also get the tranny that comes iwth the FS-ZE motor.

these are the simple guidlines that honda owners use when going hy-brid and they should work for you. i know this isnt a for sure response/advice but, i just wanted to at least a little. GOOD LUCK!!

OOOPS!!!! My bad! I was slightly tired when I wrote that. And FYI the ITR motor is the B18C5-R.

You know, i got rid of my honda because i was sick of cocky "honda owners" that everyone in the import scene loathes. I, frankly, did not want to be labelled one of "them". So, I figured I'd give Mazda a chance and join their board, hoping for intelligent dialogue and people with manners. Unlike those on the clubsi.com site who were very childish.

I've been reading your responses on this board and quite frankly, almost every one of your posts reeks with bad attitude. Sometimes it seems that you try to belittle someone else and you strike me as a know-it-all.

As for why would you want to put a B16 into an integra? Well not everyone has the money for a B18C1, dude. The B16 is cheap and perfect for a 1st or 2nd gen Teg'. And is the perfect engine for an NA Teg'.

The B16A2 has the best rod to stroke ratio of any Honda B-series motors and makes it more favourable to high revving (ie. 9,000rpms+ with either TODA or Spoon cams). So, If you wanted an NA all-motor 1st or 2nd gen Teg, it would be better to use the B16 engine. And yes, the B16 has a better ratio than even the coveted ITR engine. If you'd like more info on the benefits of a B16 engine check out www.clubsi.com and go to the NA forum.

I really hate that this forum has people with attitudes like yours. I know I'm the new guy here, but I've got allot of exp. on boards like these and I know that est. guys like you usually like to start flaming wars and make me look like the bad guy-well I ain't. And i am not a novice in the performance arena. For fun, my engineering firend and I like to design F3000/F3 type engines using ProE, Rhino and other CAD/CAM programs. Novices cant do stuff like that now can they? So, don't try and make me out to be one in your rebuttal.

So the FS-ZE factory transmission was a 4wd? I am only asking because I have just started planning for doing this exact same swap. I already know I am going to have to get the engine with the factory ECU, but my question is If the FS-ZE came with a 4wd trans then would it be easier to convert my protege to a 2001 or just attempt to find the FWD trans.

'01 Protege LX 1.6

MikeD January-17th-2002 04:57 PM

TheMAN is correct. You will need to get a tranny from a '00 + Pro ES if you have a 1.6L. Other than that the engine will bolt right in and start up with '00 and '01 Protege ES 1.8L and 2.0L. However you will either need to use the J-Spec ECU which would require the wiring harness from a Sport 20 OR you will need to find some place that can tweak the ECU for you. I know because I've done the swap already. Hope this helps you out

Is the 1.6L ECU OBD I? This would be ideal because the FS-ZE J-spec ECU is OBD I. The 1.8L proteges in the US use OBD II code. Thus, the J-spec ECU is not compatible in the 1.8L cars.

My guess is that the '00 1.6L pro is OBD II. Thus, the J-spec ECU cannot help you. Contact Corksport about an ECU for the FS-ZE. Derrick is trying to get superchips to work something out.

theMan:
...the FS-ZE either came with an automatic (FWD version) or if you wanted manual, you have to get 4WD...
Oh poor babies! hehe .. being forced into getting a 4WD 170Hp car... :squint:

dude, for "FUN" you fool around with pro-e? what did your mother feed you as a child?

jsin January-19th-2002 01:48 AM

well, i got some info on the j-spec ecu from corksport. seems like a no-go on the ecu swap, so until i can afford the haltech ecu the switch has been nixed. now that im going back stateside i need to get rid of the fs-ze. anyone interested?............any other ideas on performance mods for the 1.6?

Turbo January-19th-2002 12:48 PM

Well Jsin you seem to be in the same boat as me. For a performance mod on the 1.6L when I am done building the test set I will mail you with a picture from outside the car and what it looks like under the hood for the RAM-Air Intake I am building. I am placing it where the factory Fog Lights went. For now that is the only thing I am working on with mine. After I am done with this I plan on placing a Venom VCN-2000 NOS system with 400 series controller.

On another note, has anyone ever converted a protege to 4WD in any format, and if they have could they give me some insight on what this took to do?

Ouch. I can get a wrecked 01 ES for about 3000-5000 in restorable shape. So I guess I better grab one of those and strip it for parts. Well there goes the idea of AWD.

FS-ZE For my MP3

I recently blew my engine somehow, and now may require a new one if Mazda manages to Screw me out of my warranty. I contacted Croksport, and they informed me that that engine will drop right into my MP3. On top of that, the ECU should work fine! :bounce: I can just emagine a Approx 170-hp-powered MP3 blowin away stock Si's:D

chdesign January-29th-2002 01:17 PM

How did you blow a brand new engine??? Are you runnign NOS and got overzealous or somethin??? Oh yeah it wil drop into your MP3 but good luck getting an engine lead time through corksport is close to 4 months. My advise to you is get a motor out of a wrecked 01+ Pro (Same engine as the MP3) and build it up then drop it in....if you do it right you coudl see well over 200 HP NA...thats High compression pistons, header, reground cams, P&P, balancing, forged rods and all that...Just a thought.

FS-ZE for my MP3

Accually, I spoke with Corksport and they can have the engine to me in about a week. No NOS here! Just drivin. Jsin if you are online, Here's a chance to unload that FS-ZE!:D
