Fram oil change thingy?
 

Anyone using the quick oil change thing from Fram thats out now?

If so, how do you like it? Seems like a good idea, but I tend to not buy anything from Fram.

My friend put one on his Volvo 850. It seems to be pretty cool. I think you are reffering to that valve you replace the drain plug with and makes oil changes easier. I don't understand the point a whole lot though. I guess it makes things cleaner and easier to do down there, but if you are good you can pull the plug and make no mess with the stock components.

I would use it if I ever stripped the drain plug or for some reason needed to replace it, otherwise the stock plug works fine.

Yeah, it seems to eliminate the mess associated with removing the plug, you know, when its just about out and oil runs all over your hand, usually hot oil if you warmed it up first.

its like $13.00 though, a bit of a rip off if you ask me.

yeah they are expensive for a valve and orange hose. I just unscrew the plug until it started to drip out of the bottom. you can then use your index finger and spin it hard so that it breaks loose and then falls into the oil cathcer or whatever you are using. You won't get anything on you or all over the place if you practice it a few times. i also put an old strainer above the catcher to catch the bolt before it falls into the old oil.

I am too cheap to spend that kind of money on something that is designed to keep my hands clean....

I am been wrenching WAY to long to even think for HALF a second that you are going to keep clean or not make a mess from time to time when changing the oil in your car....its just a fact of life....

the ONLY way for you to keep clean and get your oil changed...is to pay someone else to do it.

I've read a few threads here about people overfilling when changing their oil. One of these would really come in handy when you have to drain a small amount. Anyone who's tried to drain a small amount from the drain plug knows it can be a huge pain in the ass (that includes me ;) ).

Good point, but you really shouldnt overfill your crankcase if your careful to begin with.
