First Oil Change, and Kartboy Shifter Bushings install
 

Well I changed my oil for the first time, 667odo. Hehe it's funny, I was driving back from the auto-parts store, and I realized it was going to be 666 on the odo for my first change!! So I drove around the block to get it to 667, I am rarely superstitious ... but it is a machine and I didn't want to give those gremlins any kind of foot-hold ;)

Anyway, I used Castrol GTX 5w30 (I want to start getting it coated with Moly). Oh and I am getting more and more irritated with my local dealership :mad: I go in and tell them I want three filters and the drain plug gaskets for my P5. He hands them to me, rings me up .... then under my car after I have the oil drained out and my filter off (btw, it was very easy to remove for me, I guess the Mazda Oil Filter Gorilla was on a smoke break when my engine was going down the line =D ) I notice the filter they sold me was longer! I assume it is the V6 filter (part #G6Y0-14-302A) AARRGH, I know it is not supposed to matter, but looking inside the two of them they looked pretty different, and the longer one the dealer sold me just looked generally 'cheaper'. I am taking the two I have left and exchanging them for the smaller one. I pre-filled the filter put it on, overall the car took 3.5qts.

Well on to the good news! While I was under there I installed my Kartboy shifter bushings, it was cake to install. Drove off the ramps and took it for a spin. Wow, the shifter feels soooo much better! I will probably be ordering a Kartboy Short Shifter next.

My engine just sounded and felt better with the new oil in. And best of all, it had been having a stuttery idle before the oil change. Not anymore, it is rock solid ... I am very happy about that :) I think the factory oil is crap! I am glad I got it out of there after break-in. I might change this out again with another batch of Castrol GTX at about 1500 miles to get the smaller filter back on there. Then I will go 3k-5k, then switch over to Mobil1 for 5k change intervals the rest of the way.

the V6 filter is MUCH better... I have looked at both used filters itself and the V6 one still looked like it had lots of life left... the oil coming out was in good condition too

how much longer is it? just as a FYI if you buy filters at your local parts store the 2001 Acura CL type S uses the same thread pitch and seal diameters (inner and outer diameters of the seal).

Yinzen, I was trying to do the first oil change (about 1100 miles) in my P5 today, but the owner's manual says oil filter change requires a special tool ("therefore, go to the dealer and spend fortune" :rolleyes:). I put the car on the Rhino ramps and searched for the filter in vain. Where do you find the filter? Does it really require a special tool?

I ended up changing oil in my VW instead....

Well the only 'special tool' required is an oil filter wrench of some sort. I found a metal cap style one at my local Pep-Boys that fit perfectly. Just take the new filter in with you to find the one that fits!

when under the car the filter is on the passanger side above the axle. Its black, so its easy to miss.

I think you are going a little overboard on this oil thing, why would you spend the money to change your oil every 667 mi? Its beyond me but I think it is a waste, especially on the environment.

That was just for the first change! 3k on the dino batch, then switching to Mobil1 for 5k intervals.

Does the metal cap hook up to your rachet driver? Tell me, does the filter have no metal casing? I think it may be a canister type oil filter then.

Can you please tell me where the oil filter is located at? I mean, do you take it out from the top or bottom of the car? And where is it located at? -- e.g., next to the battery, alternator, etc....

RHAGEL, people usually change the new car's first oil at around 1000 miles to take out metal particles from the engine that's just broken in. Since the engine is brand new, it also may have some unwanted 'contaminants' from its manufacturing site. I've been to a few plants (due to my job), and they aren't exactly clean. There are screws and metal pieces all over the floor and assembly lines and tables, and the workers don't wash their hands after whatever they do. ;)

Yes the metal cap style filter wrench attaches to the ratchet driver.

I guess then I should get my oil changed, I got 2200 mi
