I always drain the oil 'till it doesn't drip at all. probably 1/2 hr. Getting rid of the oil is beginning to be a pain. With three vehicles and living in a remote area the miles really add up!

Change every 8000kms

Guys, I just change my oil 8000kms. My manual says chnage oil and filter every 8000kms! 2001 SE DOHC 1.6L.. THe guy who posted above , said every 3500 miles ~ 5-6000kms.. Is this true? Can I void my waranty changing oil and filter every 8000kms? Thanks guys!

The salesman said to do the FIRST change at 3500 miles (car's brand new). I'm sure I'll change it before that. I've always change the filter/oil at 3000 miles with all our vehicles, and had few problems.

Interval

Thats the thing!! I have always done my oil changes every 3000miles / 5000kms and nver had any issues!!! (NONE). I think manufacturers are starting to admit that 5000kms intervals is overkill!!!!! Why else would they recommend 8000kms intervals in their owners manual???? I don't know!!! I'll probably run synthetic if I am planning on keeping to the 8000km interval!! Any thoughts????

a friend of mines uncle is head of service at a ford dealer. he said that if you bring it back to them, they will suggest every 3500, and if you bring it in then, that its ok, but that it actually only needs to be done around every 5000miles. they just tell you 3500 cause in older cars thats what was needed, and in newer cars they hope if they say 3500 you will bring it by 5000. he also said that by running fully synthetic mobil1 that even 6k probably wouldnt hurt the car, just dont do it consistently.
