Final Drive gears for 01 LX2.0

I've read a couple of threads involving gas mileage, but they were older.

My 01 LX2.0 manual runs about 3400 in 5th at 70. It has about 180K but still runs like a dream. No one can believe it has that many miles on it. I plan to put many, many more miles on it.

With the power it has, it could easily slow down to 2500-2600 at that speed and have no problems. Even though I live in East Tennessee and have some hills, all it takes is a down-shift to get the power you need if necessary. It seems obvious to me, if you're turning less rpm at the same highway speed, you're going to use less gas. And with fuel costing what it does now, I'd like to explore making the gearing change.

I would like to find a source for changing the final drive ratio to lower my road RPM to about 2500 at 70 in 5th. But rather than changing just the fifth gear, I think I want to do it for the entire transmission, thus the desire to change the final drive ratio.

I'd like some comments on doing so, and also a way to find someone who can supply the gears, and/or do the work. I live in Kingsport, TN.

Then if I find it can be successful, I'd like to do it for my 92 DX also (290K and still runs like a top).

Thanks!
Steve
