I'm checking with Rafi from RR racing to see if he can get Fidanza to make them for the 1.6L & 1.8L Proteges. $350 on sale? That's just for the flywheel right? That's higher than RR racing, I'm selling my brand new Flywheel AND ClutchMasters stage 1 clutch kit for $500 if I can't arrange a swap with Rafi. Compare that to SR motorsports at $700+ for both.

i got mine from www.ptuning.com - looked like all the mazda appl (xcext miata) are on sale right now for $350...

also, for you guys that would like em for your car, fidanza will custom make - it seems like somewhere i read they need 10? people to commit in order to produce them...their site is www.aluminumflywheels.com

yep, $350 for just the flywheel...def www.rr-racing.com (OR ERIC!) is the lowest i've seen IF he still offers at those prices. wish i had checked with him, he prob could have gotten the 1.6 miata for me, even though it wasn't listed on the site...
for any who wan't to go the 1.6 route for 1st gens, www.monkeywrenchracing.com has them for $329 right now! grrr...mine was $369.95 shipped
anyways, all these mid $300 prices are pretty good - most of the time i seen em for over $400

bty, the 1.6 miata fw weighs 7lbs 3.4oz on postal scales

isnt the 1st gen pro lx with a BP 1.8L DOHC engine? So why would you be getting the flywheel for a 1.6L?

protejay Feb 27, 2002 02:01 AM

Ez answer:

its lighter and its cheaper!

back in jan, i started looking...noticed Braden had been using the Miata 1.8 flywheel...

also on Miata`s, which had 1.6 engine 90-93/1.8 engine 94up; you could use either flywheel on either engine...so why wouldn't the 1.6 also work on our LX Pros?? the input shaft and spline count is exactly the same

the fidanza made for our 1st gen weighs 9lbs
the 1.8 miata is 8lbs
the 1.6 is 7lbs

i haven't installed yet, but so far no reason thatit won't work

My Fidanza Flywheel is gonna be delivered today! :D I checked my UPS Tracking #, and it is out for delivery. Can't wait.

LinuxRacr Feb 27, 2002 12:51 PM

I just got my Flywheel about 5 minutes ago, and it looks shweet! It reiks of quality, and it is light. Is there anything extra needed to make it fit, or will it just go right on to my 2.0 DOHC?

Eric F Feb 27, 2002 01:13 PM

It should bolt right on. Now, could you please stop rubbing it in? j/k LOL

Sweedenhouse Feb 27, 2002 01:35 PM

I dunnon on that RR website it says $275 plus $15 for shipping for the 2.0L protege's, is that right? Cause I got a p5 and I'm also lookin into gettin one of these, as for earlier someone said it would cost about as much as a clutch job, well I've never had a clutch job done and I don't wanna get ripped, so what do you think a fair price for having one of these flywheels installed would be? Thanks for the help, I'm just not as experienced as some of you guys with engines and what not. I mean I know a little, but I know just enough to get me into trouble :D

Eric F Feb 27, 2002 01:44 PM

IMHO, it makes more sense to install the flywheel and a new clutch at the same time. The installation charge should be the same for both, as it would be for either one by itself. Installation cost vary obviously, but you could get quotes of around $300 to $500. I would say $300 to $400 from someplace you feel comfortable doing the work would be fair. Anyone else?
Also, remember that the Fidanza flywheel and clutch from RR racing only apply to Proteges with 2.0L engines and manual transaxles. I have a brand new Fidanza flywheel and Clutch Masters stage 1 clutch I bought from RR racing before I new it wouldn't fit my 1.8L if anyone's interested.

LinuxRacr Feb 27, 2002 01:48 PM

The shop told me if were to get it done separate from my engine install, it would be about $250-375.

Sweedenhouse Feb 27, 2002 02:18 PM

Cool thanks guys, then I'll wait and get the clutch too and have it all installed at once. I appreciate your advice cause I hate goin into some shop blindly with no knowledge of how much a job should cost. I hate gettin bent over

Eric F Feb 27, 2002 04:00 PM

Ditto that. It sounds like Linux got a pretty decent price. That's better than I expected. Hmm, I wonder if I could strech my bellhousing out to fit around the flywheel and clutch?

Pigeon Jan 23, 2003 12:42 AM

my second gen also uses teh F-25MR transaxle....
but i have the 1.5L DOHC motor....

would flywheels and clutches made for the 1.8L motor bolt up to my car without problems???
