exuast

iam a newbe at this and was woundering if the mp3 or mazdaspeed would fit on my car so it could be cheeper. i have a 2003 lx at 2.0L

Roddimus Prime September-24th-2006 03:32 PM

the mazdaspeed/mp3 exhaust is just a muffler. It MAY give you a 2-3whp gain but I wouldn't count on it.

If you want some solid upgrades you should try a few of these mods.

thunder header (sold by kargoboy on this forum)
magnaflow catback exhaust (sold by protegegarage.com)
Simota cold air intake (also sold by kargoboy)
front solid motor mount (sold by AWR)

this is of course assuming you've kept your car 100% up to date on all required maintenance.. That should always be your first mod.

p.s. I see you live in GA, I'm in birmingham, AL but I'll be in ATL this weekend at zoom zoom live at the speedway. You should come out.

blue-man-car September-25th-2006 10:28 AM

which speed way is the zoom zoom at? and what days? mybe we can hang out and help me out on working on my car?

macdaddyslomo September-25th-2006 12:11 PM

Fixed for you matty...Thunder doesnt make intakes

blue-man-car September-25th-2006 01:31 PM

is the p5 and the 2003 protege same set up on exuast. so if i find a part on a p5 it would fit ?

KrayzieFox September-25th-2006 01:58 PM

The P5 is a little shorter than regular Proteges. It would fit but the muffler wouldn't be visible from the bumper.

macdaddyslomo September-25th-2006 01:58 PM

that's big no...

P5 has a shorter rear end I believe so it(P5 axle back) wouldnt be long enough for a sedan...

Roddimus Prime September-25th-2006 02:52 PM

Atlanata motor speedway. I should be there around noon-ish on sunday if I dont have any family problems. I've got 2 in ER right now and not expected to make it.

blue-man-car September-26th-2006 07:05 AM

is the show all weekend? iam sorry to hear about the fam. do you think that they will have parts there and if so will they be cheaper then going through the internet finding the prices?

Roddimus Prime September-26th-2006 12:13 PM

it's saturday or sunday...depending on what day you sign up for.

there are no parts for sale....just car demos and driving stuff. If you need parts you'd be better served shopping from the vendors on this forum.

noob question... a CAt-back is exahust tip.. muffler... pipe right..... then after the cat-back there are... more pipe... the catalitic converter and then the headers??

did i got it right???

So basically the cat back its half a exhaust system because lacks a catalitic converter and the headers.... ?????

kargoboy October-4th-2006 08:53 AM

From back-to-front, on a 2.0L:

Axle-back portion (with muffler), S-pipe, Resonator (one piece stock, 2 pcs most cat-backs),
Catalytic convertor, Mid-pipe (p-garage offers a high-flow cat/mid-pipe as one piece, very nice but not cheap), downpipe (stock unit includes pre-cat), exhaust manifold (the Thunder header keeps the DP and Mani a two-piece, most headers are one).

blue-man-car October-24th-2006 05:25 PM

hey my bro just got a wrx and the check enjen came on and to find out the guy befor him that but the exust on messed up the cat sinser. does any one know how to fix that? would a test pipe work or new wire or what?
:firehair:

dudeondacouch October-25th-2006 05:38 AM

i'm assuming you mean the oxygen sensor. if he messed up the sensor itself, then it will have to be replaced. if the check engine light is on because he took the cat out and the sensor is reading unfiltered exhaust, you can "fool" the computer with a MIL-fix. (resistor, capacitor, and wire) Matty used to sell them, he probably still has a few.

Da P-Funk! October-27th-2006 08:41 AM

A stock P5 exhaust has a resonator?
Can i remove and replace with straight pipe? How come no one else has done this? I am not so sure i have a resonator...
