Extrude honed Intake manifold

I got my manifold back yesterday and Powder coated it then installed it. Install went pretty quick took about 2 1/2 hours to complete. Started it up and it ran funky for a second but no problems after that. No CEL! Seems to have lost a little torque on the low end, but mid - high is noticably better. RPM s are a little lower when idling and at highway speeds but no erractical idling or jumping around...Just as stable as before. I will post pics of manifold and install tomarrow.........Duncan

What exactly is extrude honing the intake manifold?

duncanslx April-7th-2003 10:25 PM

Like when you get an engine rebuilt and they bore it say .30 over. Or if you do it your self you can hone cylenders with a bottle brush. But in this case you cant get very far with either one so they pump this play dough looking shit through it, and it erodes the inside to the desired "spec" I guess you could say.

TheMAN April-7th-2003 10:32 PM

hence why I can't see a damn difference from your pics

You can tell that the new one is a good deal more shiny and smooth in the ports than the old one. I wouldnt guess that youd be able to see inside the damn thing. :wackit:

TheMAN April-7th-2003 10:47 PM

and how can I tell a difference with the "smooth ports" in those pics? you could have bought another intake from a junk yard, cleaned it up, and took those pics for all we know

duncanslx April-7th-2003 10:53 PM

Yup, thats what I did. And that would be really nessacery since my Uncle owns a machine shop. I guess maybe I bought my NX at the junkyard too. I put out alot of money on my cars, too much to skimp on porting a fucking intake. Get a life cheif. And yes, I did take those pics.......with my camera that I bought at a junk yard. LMFAO(at you)............Duncan

Maxx Mazda April-9th-2003 10:58 AM

Duncan,

Why did you port out the manifold if you don't even have an intake? Sounds kind of pointless...

duncanslx April-9th-2003 11:53 AM

UHH, okay and red wire loom is an engine mod? Not sure how much home work youve done on intakes. But the HP gain is so minimal not to mention subjective. I have a good ole K&N drop in and because Mazda did a good enouph job on the desighn of the intake to begin with there is really no point in spending near $300 on an ingen set up. So if I dont have an intake , youre saying that there is no point in getting the most out of the air that im already working with? So, should I flow more air into a restrictive manifold. To you it may sound pointless, But ive done it and it makes a big difference. What color is your wire loom again?

The HP gain is minimal? How much did you spend on getting your manifold honed? All that for BARELY ANY horsepower? An intake is by far the best bang for the buck when it comes to power.

I just think you wasted your money on something that could have been better spent elsewhere. You may "feel" mopre power, but stick that bitch on a dyno and we'll see how much you really got.

By the way, my loom is red!

My uncle owns a machine shop, so it didnt cost me anything. I traded him out for some powder coating. I guess if the whole 2-4 average HP you gained is YOUR best bang for the buck, thats just real good for you. I still have alot of stuff I want to do. I have NX,Extruded Manifold, port matched head,K&N,Random hi flow cat,Dynomax Muffler,2"piping,Jet controll module,Differential,ETC...Ive opened my engine up and started doing some real mods while youre still playing with Phucking wire loom and niffty light up guages. If I need to be schooled Id rather some one with some real knowledge and experience do so. Until then I think Auto zone has some real neato stick on hood pins you may like........Duncan:wackit:

Right... Well, I had alot written, but I decided to respond with something else... I'm not going to argue this any further. Do what you want with your car, and I'll do what I want with mine. Bashing me is just childish though. If you have facts to back up what you're saying, by all means do it like you did, but trying to cut me down is just far too juvenile for my liking.

If im not mistaken, you wanted to flame me because you cant figure something out........Okay then.

Just trying to point you in direction to a good deal. Any way I didnt mean to cut you down, I am sometimes easily offended some times.........My bad

Alright, I'm willing to let it go...

Here's some info I found on extrude-honing:

P5s_LetsRoll April-11th-2003 11:24 AM

the ONLY thing i would like to say is this..

Why would you want so MUCH FLOW in to combustion chamber, but NO flow OUT...

NO ARGUING.. it is VERY juvenile and childish..

FACTS are FACTS...

The more Air flow in = MORE air flow OUT.... Otherwise, you're wasting your money trying to do anything.. Upgrade your from exhaust out fool..
