exhaust suggestions on a mp5
 

Ok, I know this question might have been asked before but the forum is acting up. I tried to search the topic, but it just won't work. So, I was wondering about exhaust systems. Does anyone have any suggestions I could go on. Which systems are better than others? What length should I get? All that type stuff. Thanks. One:dunno:

well... iam gonna order an Apexi universal N1 NA Muffler, when i get it i will get a muffler shop to do 2? catback pipeing

i ordered a full catback system from thermal

I ordered the Sport Exhaust for my P5....and maybe will exchange the pipe for the one that the ES 2.0 (one resonator only) has.

No more mods by now for the exhaust, im looking forward for the turbo in christmas *i hope*.

what I am asking is does it not matter what brand of exhaust I go with?

I had narrowed mine down to the Mazdaspeed or Mazda Sport axle-back exhaust you can get from the dealer for $200, until I heard about the drone at highway speed. I do a TON of highway driving, so I didn't think it would be what I want, so I'm holding out now for the Racing Beat cat-back system, which produces the sound I want, without the drone, and looks the way I want.

There are also Thermal, Bosal, and others that are available in cat-back for between $400 and $600.

I was actually thinking about getting a magnaflow exhaust. What do you think? And, what is the deal with a cat-back system vs just an exhaust? Yeah, got the message.. Getting ready to head to Norman for the day.. If you see a Mica Blue P5 with TX plates, tint, and a silver "Zoom-Zoom" sticker on the back window in town, that's me.

A Cat-back exhaust goes from just aft of the second cat, replacing the length of pipe with the resonator as well as the muffler and tailpipe assembly.

An axle-back exhaust is basically the muffler and tailpipe assembly ready to be bolted on at the stock flange.

Some people tolerate the Mazda sport axle-back. From everything I have heard, as well as hearing it in person, I prefer the Racing-Beat system, and am willing to pay extra for the sound difference.

So, what does the length of the exhaust have to be on the protege5? I noticed that exhausts come in all shapes and sizes. I don't want the put an exhaust that ends up being too long or too short. Also, how big can the outlet be?

If you buy an exhaust for the Protege5, it'll be the right length. 2.25" refers to the diameter of the piping. The outlet (the tip) makes absolutely no difference to the performance of the exhaust system, so slap on whatever you want. It can be 6" across if you feel the need.

Different brands will have different quality construction, different sounds and different materials. Don't expect much power difference between similar exhausts (ie, most 2.25" exhausts should make the same power).

I like the Bosal Cat-Back....its well constructed of POLISHED Stainless Steel from front to back. the fit is great, the look is great, the SOUND is great...and the tip is removable/changeable....so if you get tired of what you got...you can buy interchangeable tips for it....they bolt on....
