exaust or muffler???
A couple questions. . .Ok, what is the difference between a "cat-back" system and a muffler? Does a muffler do anything? Does a whole exaust make that much of a difference over just an exaust? I was just curious, because you can pick up a muffler anywhere for $100, however, I can't find an exaust for less than like $370. So, if an entire exaust is better than just a muffler, where can I get a reasonably inexpensive exaust for a P5?
In other news, I pick up my P5 tonight. . .I saw it at the dealer today, it still has the white plastic all over it. I will post some pics of it tonight as soon as I get home and are done driving it for a little bit. Latas. -Dan |
welcome, and congrats on your new P5 :)
cat-back is basically a full replacement of exhaust piping AFTER the stock catalytic converter (hence the name CAT-BACK). A muffler is just a muffler (duh :dunce: ) do a search on 'cat-back exhaust' or just 'exhaust' if you haven't done so already. This topic has been VERY VERY thoroughly discussed in the forum :D also check out the FAQ, it is very useful because it's nicely organized and laid out on all the choices available for the Protege :) |
Well I had a muffler only at first and it made no change at all.
Just got my new custom cat-back and I can tell a little difference in performance. 0-60 seemed about the same, but when I reached around 40mph or high RPM that where I felt the difference. My 40-60mph accel. seemed to increase some. Its not a huge difference, but its enough to where you can tell something has changed which is good enough. |
