engine light fix

I made a post a few days ago about my engine light coming on. Well, I just got back from the service department and it turned out to be , apparently if you gas-up without turning your car all the way off and you dont screw your gas cap all the way on pasta certain click it will cause your engine light to come on. Only the dealer can turn it off. So beware. By the way it wasen't my fault it was from my free tank of gas from the dealer.

I am curious about this also, I have a 1.6Liter. My light has come on about 4 times since January. Each time it has been becuase of a vaccum hose from that attaches to the top of the motor pops off! The dealer says it is attached to some type of hoses involved in the return air line to the gas tank(???). I got tired of the visits, so when I got home this time, I used a industrial wire tie and really cinched the hose down as it is a sleeve fit.
Now I am wondering if it was fueling the car while running that somehow caused the hose to pop off.
The dealer says that it is being caused by the Mazda front upper strut bar that they sold me and installed making contact with the upper end of the motor, and suggest if it happens again, they will remove the strutbar, no refunds and probably a bill- gee thanks.
Maybe I just won't leave the car running at the pumps anymore-

Are you guys serious? Seriously, this is the first time I've ever heard of anyone not turning their car off to gas it up. I mean there is a big sign at gas stations that says "CAUTION, shut motor off before fueling". And it also warns you to in the owners manual.

Hehe - I generally gas up my car with the motor running, while talking on my cell phone with a cigarette in my mouth that is half burning ash ready to drop. When the cig is done, I squash it with my foot right next to the pump, while topping off the tank and spraying gas everywhere as I overfill it.

Then I go kick some puppies at the pet store, while opening all the bird cages, feeding x-lax to the guinea pigs, and re-locating the mice to the nice, warm, ball-python tank.

Sorry - feeling a bit ornery tonight....

cjb, I don't know about you, but here in knoxville with 92 degree heat 100% humidity, with a 3 year old and a newborn, I tend to want to leave the air on while pumping in 14 gallons of gas. But hey, that's just me.

Really? You would rather risk the lives of your children than subject them to the discomfort of the heat and humidity during refueling?

I suppose a fire is a *chance*, while the discomfort is *guaranteed*... Hmmmm.

Or have you suckered me in?

toru, you know, I never really looked at it that way. While I'm sure just about everyone has left their car running once or twice, I can see the danger. Thanks for the eye opener. I shall change my ways.
