ECU Programming

I remembered something from complaining to the Mazda guy the other day about the 2.0L annoying noise problem. I was asking him how they were going to fix it and he said they were going to reprogram the ECU. I have not torn down our ECU or looked at it in anyway and was wondering if anyone had. If they are going to be reprograming it at the dealership then there must be a flash chip, or something like that, inside the ECU. So here is the idea. I have access to some equipment that makes it really easy to copy flash chips as long as they are in a standard package. So does anyone know if there is a chip like this in the ECU? I'm thinking we could copy MP3 ECU's for a little bit of extra power (or maybe the JSpec engine for peoples who had all the proper parts).
