Does an 01 Protege ES have a TPS?

Does an 01 Protege ES have a throttle position sensor? I'm not too bright on this car, but when I come to a stop now, the RPM's drop down like it's going to choke out, then come back up. I have had it cut off on me once, but now it just chokes down when I come to a stop. Has anyone else had this problem? I thought maybe it was the TPS or maybe a mass air flow sensor. I have 98,500 miles on it. Thanks for the help.

yes the ES 2.0L does have a TPS sensor on the TB. This is more than likely NOT your problem.

question for you:

when did you last change your fuel filter? Do you have an aftermarket intake? when was your last tune up with new plugs? Have you ever done an intake manifold cleaning?

Just out of curiosity, how does one do the intake manifold cleaning?

i vaproize mine into the intake with a vaccuum/drain bottle. Imagine a medical IV bag....same idea. Instead of a needle in the air you use a rubber line on the closest vaccuum nipple on the intake manifold to the TB. Start a slow and steady drip of your prefered intake cleaner...mine is "BG's 44K". After the bottle runs dry blast the throttle body open a few times to burn all the carbon off the intake valves and notice all of the smoke that comes out of your car....this is carbon being burned out.

Also, use Carb cleaner...CAREFULLY to clean out the TB.

you may also want to clean/replace sparkplugs after this if you notice a LOT of black smoke...dont want to foul the plugs with all of the carbon.

I have not replaced the fuel filter. The dealer told me that the filter was in the tank and did not need to be replaced. Is there another filter that is not in the tank? I replaced the spark plugs at 90,000 miles, now have 98,500. Could this have anything to do with the Oxygen sensor? I do not have an aftermarket intake. Everything is stock.

how often should someone change their oxygen sensor?
I saw a good deal, or i think a good deal for a Aftermarket NGK one and wanted to know if that would be any better?

Could it be his EGR valve is becoming clogged? I know when they are well and truly clogged the car idles very poorly and will die out, maybe this is the first stage.
