Different AT's in the LX and ES?

I drive an '03 LX. I have the plain old automatic transmission, but I'm envious of the ES's AutoSport AT. As far as I can ascertain, they're both your average 4-gear auto trannies, but what I'm wondering is how identical they actually are. My logic would be that they are the same tranny, but the ES has that electronic control. There's a system for the 300zx called Shift-At-Will that does the same sort of thing for their AT, so I know this capability can be added to an AT that doesn't already have it. So if I found a shift lever and the proper electronics from an ES, could I do this to my LX? I know this is potentially a pretty retarded question, so flame at will.

When you say you've found the "electronics" as well as the lever, what are you reffering to? I would imagine that the SportShift has some sort of "brain" that controls when the shifts are made compared to what the driver selects, etc.

To my knowledge there are solenoids that drive the pneumatics of the shifting mechanisms. In addition you'll need the "sport" display on your left gauge face.

See to the left of the temp/gas display.
