diff between fs-ze engine and mine?

i was wondering, what is the diff (besides 30-40 hp) between us 2.0 and jspec2.0? what if i dropped lots of dough on the jspec cams, pistons, and intake manifold from corksport? would this be similer to the full jspec version? if not, what would i expect hp and torque-wise from adding these? thank you to the people smarter than me one answers!!

LinuxNinja had this engine in his MP3 before going the turbo route. From what I hear, the gains from the camshafts and pistons are minimal without ECU upgrade. You cannot swap the Jspec ECU into the American car either. I don't think that Linux ever got the 170 hp out of that engine. With the American ECU it will run like your current setup. The Corksport manifold is also not emissions legal, just FYI.

Camshafts should give you about ten horsepower for the pair. The high compression pistons are not much higher in compression to the stock pistons I thought (10:1 versus 10.7:1) so the gain is not as big as you might expect. A labor quote I got on pistons was well over $2,000. At this rate, I would (and did) go for a turbo setup.

actually, the fs-ze pushes about 160 SAE hp, which is how it would be rated in us specs. the fs-ze ecu is OBD-1, and the us spec ecu is OBD-2. that is why you can't swap them. the us engine has 9.1:1 comp ratio, fs-ze is 10.5:1, mazdaspeed pistons will take you to 10.7:1. the intake manifold is lsightly different. see the thread about it being installed by "the man".

ok thanks guys, but now i have a nother quetion.... how would installing the cams and the highercomppression pistons affect me running n20?

If you're going to run nitrous, stay away from high compression pistons. High compression pistons and NOS or turbo = meltdown.

Yeah. If you have to ask a question like that I would stay away from the bottle.
