Custom exhausts
 

Per PseudoRealityX recommendation I am looking into having a 2" custom exhaust. I also have read in SCC that 2" would be the best for mild NA 2.0L. I can't find anybody local that will do mandrel bends for the piping and I don't want crush or hydraulic bends as they reduce the flow (which is the whole point of replacing piping in the first place). I was told by a few local shops that a "good" bending machine would not crush the pipe at all. If this was true the machine would be a mandrel bender. Most of them have never heard of mandrel bending. At least thats what they tell me. I was looking into getting pre mandrel bent sections of piping from magnaflow but their website only advertises 2.5" and 3". http://www.magnaflow.com/03hardware.htm
I called them and they do sell 2.25" bends as well in stainless steel. What would you guys recommend? Should I go with 2.25" or should I look out of my area for this? If anyone in the VA, and DC area knows of a shop that does mandrel bending please let me know. Or if you know of another company that sells these pre bent sections let me know. I am not interested in the Bosal because I am not a fan of the muffler that comes with it. Just my opinion though. Sorry this is so long...its a lot of information to convey.....

What would be a good size for a 1st gen dohc with or without a high flow cat?

what would be the differences in performance in 2" and, say, 2.5"?

So, going to a 2.25 or 2.5" exhaust, you would see a loss in low end, high end, or both?

I had the impression that 2.25 would be ideal. Hmm. Say you had non-stock cams on the dohc head, would 2" still be ideal, or 2.25?

In a car pushing 130Hp NA how much difference is there in the mandrel bending if your new exhaust is only going to give you 5-9 more horses max.

you may not get anywhere near that if the flow on your new system sucks. I am going to piece an exhaust together. I will post the parts sheet when I am done and the price. It should not cost more than $350-400 including muffler. The shop here would make a 2" hydraulic bent exhaust with magnaflow muffler of my choice for $225-250. That is my hookup supposedly since I know the guy. What did everyone else pay to get thier springs installed? I paid $100 w/o allignment. They were charging $200 for guys with civics and such that they can do in an hour. I think I got an awesome deal from my friend. The exhaust must be a great deal as well for $250...

Just in case you didnt know already, your stock piping a very nicely done 2 inch...so replacing it with another 2inch system would be superflewus unless you were removing all the restrictions -secondary cat+connecting pipe, resonator and stock muffler of course.

should i get a pre-silencer? I am going to get a high flow cat as the header will eliminate it. the piping is 2" however its crush or hydraulic bent. So the flow is not great. The pre cat is here to stay until HP releases their header or till i can get in contact with anthony at AWR about his header. Could I get rid of it with some of that flex exhaust pipe to replace the pri cat? That would be kindof ghetto but would help I'm sure till the header is available....

Is the exhaust for the 2.0L 2" in diameter? Has someone actually verified this with a caliper? I know the exhaust for the 1.8L is slightly smaller than 2", about 1 & 7/8". I would think they would be the same.

Aren't they all measured in outer diameter?

My Bosal system was listed as 54mm outer diameter. ??

It's 15 gauge stainless steel tubing. I don't know how thick that is, but 25.4mm=1 inch. So ~50mm is damn close.
